Fascinating! Love the first story especially. I’ve saved that website and look forward to reading more issues.

Good morning.

Watched Spielberg’s “Abraham Lincoln.” last night.

We thought the acting production and screen play were good.

Most all civil war related, we still had a view into the House, and how things work ( nothing has really changed).

The First lady thought it was a little slow at times.

Lord Derby was a set warmer Prime Minister while the coalition that made up the Liberal/Whigs got their act together. The only thing of notice was D’Israeli was Chancellor the Exchequer and Tory leader of the House of Commons. Lord Derby was a peer therefore had a seat in the House of Lords.

“... for the sanctity and solemnity of his aspect might easily be mistaken for seasickness ...”

LOL! I like the way Mr. Strong has fun with his own verbiage.

More wisdom in 1858 in a peripheral "Miscellany, Woman's Influence Over Man", than the whole of what we get in 2018.

Strong obviously spends a lot of time and effort on Columbia College. He seems pessimistic about the hope of a great University in commercial New York City.

Anyone know if Columbia College experienced the malaise Strong predicted?
