I rotate my garden plot based on this: LEGUMES, LEAVES, FRUITS, ROOTS, FALLOW/COMPOST. Leaves are like lettuce stuff, fruits are produce other than beans etc., roots, are garlic, carrots, beets, etc.
Now I had been planting a cover crop and letting one bed rest for a season. So when the new beds were built the composter had to be moved. So I had gallons of unfinished compost. So we put some concreate blocks around the fallow bed, and turned it into a compost heap.
We have buds that are beginning to bloom just in time for a spring frost that is predicted. UGH.
Well hope you are all doing well, and have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
Snowed here this morning, Nothing is growing,
Please add me to the thread.
I have this year been having trouble finding bulk seed taters.
Well, except for one place that has them - some purples, some russians, your usual reds.
But most places only have like ten (or even fewer) potatoes in these skimpy plastic bag thingies...
I wish I could get my hands on 15-20 lbs of the Russian white fingerlings I got a few years back! They were, by far, the best tater I ever ate. And all my neighbors and friends agreed.
But right now the only things my yard is suitable for is ducks and cattails. Rain has left everything swampy and even puddled in the low section.
Every time I start to see mud, it turns white again in a day or two. Not much else to report.
Update from Delaware: Started leeks, oregano, thyme, cilantro, sage indoors. Only cilantro and sage germinated. Restarted the others on Wednesday.
Planted Kiss-Me-Over-The-Garden-Gate and critters dug up the seeds. Will have to wait until November to plant.
Also started some Toothache plants indoors; nothing yet.
BTW! Snow showers expected this week. Argh!!!!
Radishes are showing, peas are showing, raspberries are leafing out, fruit trees are in full bud nearly ready to bloom. I’ve hit them (fruit trees) twice now with h2o2/insecticidal soap to deal with the aphids, thrips, caterpillars etc and powdery mildew.
The tomatoes and lettuce in the garden room are doing OK, though some of the heirloom tom seeds are less than fecund.
Only 8 of the dozens of poppies I seeded came up, don’t know why that would be, they’re all in the same bed. About a dozen or so daffs are in full bloom, as is the retard rhodo. Going to plant some hollyhocks on Tuesday, and maybe some nasturtiums in the rose beds. Love making salad with nasturtium, it’s like peppery lettuce.
Not much else to say; mowed the lawn again last week, and it is looking a bit ragged already.
Take care all, and happy growing!
Excellent!
And the snow finally melted from around my box gardens - I can see them, YAH!
We can't put anything in the ground up here until Memorial Day weekend, so it's too early to even start anything indoors - but soon.
Have a blessed Resurrection Sunday - the tomb is guaranteed to be empty!
Sunny but only 43. Average for this time of year. I’m getting the bug, though. I’ve already bought my peat starters, and I’m going to put radishes in with the tomatoes for fun and because I love French Breakfast radishes. My garden space is teeeeeeny, so it’s containers all the way.
Mother Nature says “No spring for you on April Fools Day!” We haven’t had any precipitation today here in Central Missouri, but apparently conditions to the west are quite bad.
Mrs. Augie drove out to Ft. Riley yesterday to visit the grandboys, and is not having a fun time getting back on I-70. In dry conditions it’s less than four hours from Manhatten to home - it’s taken her a little over four hours to get from Manhatten to Blue Springs today. She said there are cars off and upside down every four or five miles.
Nothing going on in my garden this weekend. The orchard trees are starting to bud out. It won’t be long before they start to bloom.
I’ve got Nanner almost ready to go back to work. I replaced a couple more hydraulic hoses while things were apart and a bit easier to work on. I’m waiting on one more filter to arrive. That isn’t likely to get here before Friday. It’s too muddy to move dirt so no big deal there.
I should be out planting potatoes today, but I’m feeling lazy so that will wait for another day.
Spent some time outside this morning. Weather was warm but windy, so my plans for cleaning up the debris left by winds. Cleaning up was useless. So watered well and deadheaded and picked a fresh bouquet.
