Got about 12 inches of snow last week. But, I need to start indoors soon to beat the short growing season. I cannot plant tomatoes outdoors and get a tomato before it freezes. I think the time between freezing temps here is less than 80 days.

We’ve got watermelons. 12 to 15 of them.
The mango tree is baring heavily
The papayas are always baring.
Dragon Fruit (A cactus looking thing) is growing well but no fruit
Pumpkins are up.

Most of the snow is gone, here. We are concerned about our bee colonies. After activity in the warm snap in February, the latest warm temps did not see any activity. We will watch this coming week.

Barb has her seedling area all set up with lamps and warming pads and the first seedlings showing.

Unfortunately, the snow covering that damned cast iron sink has melted, which means I need to move it down the bulkhead, into the basement, and over to and onto the counter! Groan!

This week I happened to be exchanging emails with the person who owns the vacant land next to my farm. He had gotten as far as building a driveway and clearing a spot for a building site, but then stopped. Rumor had it there were medical problems involved, but I didn’t pry and he didn’t volunteer, so I don’t know how accurate that rumor is.

Anyway, Thursday he mentioned he was thinking he might sell the place. I sent him what I thought was a low-ball offer. Not low enough to be insulting, but enough to open negotiations.

He replied saying that it was exactly the amount he’d been thinking of listing it for!!!!

County offices were closed Friday, or else we would have signed all the papers the next day! He seemed happy not to have to worry about it anymore.

This will double the size of my farm, plus getting me one step closer to building my house!

And if that weren’t enough, the parts for my portable greenhouse arrived yesterday. I got permission to put one in the backyard here, but only if it can be taken down and put back up easily. It’s supposed to snow this afternoon, but I should be able to start my seeds sometime this week :)

Howdy! Went up last weekend and laid out a soaker hose system at the old rent hose we’re fixing up to sell. Less than an hour after I headed home my neighbor who keeps an eye on things let me know the rain started. Rained all week so it didn’t need the soakers yet. My “curb appeal job” there is looking good so far. Still have a few other things sitting here at home to take up there and plant.

Spent the week at home planting nothing but wedding shower plans for a granddaughter. The two new beds hubby built for my birthday the previous week were calling me every minute! Finally today I transplanted comfrey and cannas out by our garage then put in tomatoes and peppers. Then repotted a few houseplants. Don’t get to spend Easter with any of the grandchildren this year so I’m spending the weekend with my plant children :)

Monday I’ll be back to wedding shower prep. Seems young people don’t do showers so much anymore. Granddaughter’s wedding is in May and no one was doing a shower. I expected at least the ladies at church would do one. The girl was very active in the church before enlisting in the Air Force 18 months ago. Guess that’s too long to be away?
