A new intercontinental ballistic missile hailed by Russian President Vladimir Putin as being able to fly over the North or South Poles and strike any target in the world reportedly was test-launched for the second time Friday..."You will have to assess that new reality and become convinced that what I said today isn't a bluff," Putin had said. "It's not a bluff, trust me."...Another new weapon Putin unveiled during the state-of-the-nation speech, called Avangard, is an intercontinental hypersonic missile that would fly at 20 times the speed of sound and strike its targets "like a meteorite, like a fireball.

It’s wasn’t important enough to post as news, but I thought you might enjoy it.
Any guy who says this knows he is a beta and trying to fake Alpha status.
Who’s he bragging to?
When Russia was flat on its back economically and militarily, back in the 90s, we didn’t lift a finger to hurt them.
In fact we gave them money to pay their nuclear scientists so they wouldn’t walk off with their knowledge and sell it to Iran and Pakistan. Which they did anyway.
We also helped them recover some of their stolen weapons-grade nuclear fuel.
“Putin had said. ‘It’s not a bluff, trust me.’”
Yes. His statement reminded me of the Tuco character in “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
Well, at least is wasn’t some fawning article about the ex-KGB stooge Putin.
Vladimir, one doesn’t need a supersonic missile to trigger mutually assured destruction.
Since when has one of their ICBMs NOT been able to fly over the North or South Pole.
The first orbital rockets used by both the Soviets and the United States were modified ICBMs.
It’s one thing to make an object move so fast in atmosphere that it ionizes the region around it. It’s quite another thing to devise precision guidance, steering and fuzing which reliably works in that domain.
I won’t believe it just because I “see” it. I’ll only believe it when I understand how it was done, if it was.
Oooooooh the Russian lovers here are gonna be so mad at you!
That’s a good point. These things would only be useful in a Armageddon scenario. I wouldn’t want to around the day after.
“Its one thing to make an object move so fast in atmosphere that it ionizes the region around it. Its quite another thing to devise precision guidance, steering and fuzing which reliably works in that domain.”
I’d guess it’d involve inertial guidance, using something like laser ring gyros. There’s also a big difference between “city killers” which don’t require a lot of accuracy, versus systems designed for a preemptive strike against silos.
At any rate, the bottom line is that Russia has nothing that’ll stop our ballistic missiles, so using these shiny new toys would come at a very steep price.
I wonder what things are looking like regarding our classified directed energy weapons research...

Apparently the name of missile is Sarmat ICBM. Weird that NATO “dubbed” it Satan 2, as per article.
FOBS?
Potempkin Missile.
It was designed to leave the atmosphere and reenter.
I’m SO stealing that.
