An Oklahoma murder mystery has brought tourists to the town of Arcadia for decades.
An old gas station has sat along Route 66 for about a century. If you stop by, Sam Gillaspy, who goes by Mr. Sam, is happy to share his story about the station's checkered past.
Sam says that back in the 1930s, when two brothers owned the station, a salesman stopped by to ask if they wanted to make counterfeit bills.
The illegal business took off.
"The counterfeiters, they built a little room back there," Mr. Sam explained. "Then they had a table right here and a chair. They just walked right in there and had a curtain over it and nobody ever knew that that room was there."
Sam said the brothers were eventually caught and sent to jail, ending the counterfeit money scam. After they served their sentences, a body was allegedly found in the empty filling station.
Sam has a few theories about what happened.
"Well, I wonder if those two old boys looked that salesman up and brought him back to that station. And, well, got rid of him," he said.
Sam loves sharing the murder mystery with visitors from around the world.
"We, as Oklahomans, we need to save our old pieces of history. We really do. And I'm trying to do my best that I can do," he added.
