Monkey sentinels form our first line of defense against yellow fever & other diseases that have killed millions
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil; SINGHUDURG, IndiaPanic-driven monkey massacres are contributing to human illness and death, and perhaps could help to spark global epidemics, warn Brazilian health officials.
A related monkey fever meanwhile raging in parts of India has recently jumped into new and very different habitat, also showing potential to spread far and wide.
At issue is simian susceptibility to Flaviviridae viruses, carried by mosquitoes and ticks. Killing upward of 5,000 people per year, worldwide, flaviviruses are as deadly to South American and Asian monkeys as to humans.

Thanks for posting this. Yes, I knew this, monkeys offer a barrier against the diseases mosquitos carry. There was the hideous story of the inhabitants there, killing monkeys over yellow fever and that was a stupid thing to do, they thought the monkeys were carrying and spreading it.
Yet many of the monkeys are invasive, stripping people’s fields, bue because of the attachment to Lord Hanuman, people can’t or have a hard time bringing themselves to exterminate them. Plus, it’s against Federal Law.

True. I haven’t researched means for peaceful co-existance.

Having said that, your pic has got to be the only monkey that does not throw its own feces. . .
