'This is what we do to kids in Mexico': Drunk stranger 'spanks man's toddler son' in a grocery store after hearing the two-year-old cry when he was told he couldn't have a candy bar A drunk man was arrested in a Georgia grocery store on Tuesday after allegedly spanking a stranger's toddler son when he heard him whining that he was not allowed a candy bar.
Juan Guvarra Martinez, 62, was standing behind James 'Logan' Morris in line at a Kroger in Newnan, near Atlanta, on Tuesday.
He overheard Morris's son ask for a candy bar and watched as he began to cry after being told no.
The man is then said to have grabbed the boy by the arm and hit him around the wrist before twisting him round to spank his bottom three times.
According to boy's father, he told him: 'This is what we do to kids in Mexico.'
Morris, a plumber, was calm and took his son back, saying: 'Buddy, we are not in Mexico.'
He paid for his goods and sent his son and the rest his family outside then waited as police arrived to question the man.
Video of them arresting Martinez, who was dressed in construction worker's clothes, was obtained by The Newnan Times Herald.
It shows him standing by the cash register, confused as he is put in handcuffs.
According to the officers, he reeked of alcohol and seemed drunk.
Morris said the man hit his son three times on the backside. The child stopped crying and was in shock, he said.

Agree. This dad and/or store did the right thing, by calling and waiting for cops, keeping José Burracho off of the streets, in his drunken condition.

Let me tell you, I would have loved to spank the Mexican kids in my Ross store for being so loud and unruly.
Right or wrong I wouldn’t have allowed anyone, much less a drunk Mexican, to mess with my kid. I tend to get very unreasonable real quick when someone messes with members of my family.
Never in my life have I really seen an unruly kid in a restaurant, store or other public setting. I know they exist, but it’s never bothered me. Occasionally I have crying kids in Walmart, but something is bothering them. Most of the time I see parents taking sick kids out into public. They are either forced too, or just un-empathetic about it.
Even when I was a younger man, kids in the restaurant never bothered me. I’m told I was meant to be a father all my life.
But no, my kids do not deserve, never will deserve, some stranger coming along and treating them poorly. Never. I wouldn’t do it another, and I wouldn’t tolerate it done to mine.
Now a few years ago I caught a big, dumb guy beating the snot out of his daughter in a store because she grabbed at a box of cereal. I cold cocked him so hard that he just hit the floor. Another father gave me a pat on the back and told me to run - “I didn’t see anything”

I’ve never bought into that-as a stay-at-home mom when the cub was little my husband was often stationed elsewhere, so we had to live in the city, which we hated-I did not take my precious cub in public because I did not want her exposed to random people and their germs-I left her with a neighbor or my aunt while I drove to the store. When she was 2, I was working fulltime and we shared an in-home babysitter with one of my cousins who lived down the street-I went to the store on the way home from work.
My cub didn’t go out in the general public until she was well over 3, able to walk around without getting stepped on, polite, well behaved. I think it is inconsiderate of parents to bring little kids on shopping trips-aside from germ exposure, they are most surely not comfortable trotting through a forest of huge grownups on short little legs, perched in a cart surrounded by strangers, etc. I didn’t expose my cub to any of that, but that is just me...
I think the “He was drunk” part should be enough to seal that deal.
Race wouldn’t even come into play. If he touched my kid to offer them a hug he would need someone’s help operating a TV remote for the next few months.

My husband also traveled and sometimes I HAD to get to a CVS or supermarket or doctor appointment and I had to take the five of them with me.
They survived.

My parents spanked (beat) me often. When I got up in the morning, at night, if I did bad things or didn’t. They loved it. Finally they beat me to death, where I actually left the planet for a short time. That one almost got my old man court martialed out of the marine corps.
I never hit my kids a single time. One of them is a nurse practitioner, one a Georgetown Law School graduate, and one is vice president of his company.
So you pack of brutes go ahead and smile and wail on your kids. I’m ashamed of you all.

FReepers et al have had it with bad parenting that has lead to ill mannered children who grow up to be snowflakes. What do you think these snowflakes are? They are children who have never been spanked and never been told “no”.

I don’t see this as sexual. I see him as a old man who although was intoxicated and lacked judgment because of, remember how things were when he was a kid, and how he raised his own kids. He for the life of him could not figure out why this man did not correct the boy and took matters into his own hands. He probably would not have done this had he been sober am sure.
Am going by what the man said before he spanked the boy. In a lot of other countries and by his age too spanking still goes on. Was a Latina woman got into trouble in Texas for spanking her child. They did that where she came from but the judge had to tell her it’s illegal in Texas and she paid a penalty for it.
I’m with you on the 2 year old knowing what the word “no” means.

Spanking your own child in Texas is perfectly legal unless the parent causes actual bodily harm-I’m fine with that-a spanking is about shaming for misbehavior more than physical pain-it should never be a beating.

Taking a kid to a pediatrician appointment is a necessary evil for sure-but I even hated to do that because the waiting area-even on base-was usually a madhouse.
I was only able to have the one cub, but everyone else in the family has 2 or more-one of my aunts had 12, and 7 is the overall average. There were always enough relatives nearby to watch kids-typical large American Latino family and all that...
