Anybody ignorant and disrespectful enough to give a LEO the finger deserves a ticket.
If you give me the finger from the safety of your car for whatever reason you think I may have done, you're going to get a pass. But if you give me the finger person to person, I'm going to be all over you........
All the times I have ever had "official" contact with LEOs I have never had a problem and they treated me with the same respect I showed them.
To disparage the LEO community as a bunch of jackboot thugs due to rare occurrences where they have abused their power is the equivalent of claiming this site is a gathering place for antisemitism and white supremacists due to past members such as A+bert and infiltrators from Stormfront who were subsequently discovered and banned.
Keep this in mind, if not for the internet, you would never have heard of this local event and your personal distrust of law enforcement would never have increased.
And if not for the MSM and their intent in fomenting racial divide, events involving black crimes and alleged abuses by their local law enforcement would be kept local.......
Here's some food for thought: If the events in Ferguson Missouri back in August 2014 had not been front page news in the MSM, ad nauseum for weeks on end, how would that have affected the BLM movement that took over every major city and college campus across this country?

Unfortunately being cooperative and responding with utmost respect is no longer enough to prevent a bad encounter.
Giving the finger to a cop indicates deep character flaws and I guarantee that person’s life will go hard. Lack of respect for authority is a massive problem in our country and I fear we have not seen the worst of the consequences.
Your response scares me a bit though. It reeks of “Respect mah athoritah”.
I hear you about the BS about Ferguson, etc. I absolutely refuse to judge those stories because it almost always comes out that it was a “good shoot”. I don’t play those divisive games.
I’m not anti-cop like you think.
But man, you’re crossing the line with your approach. Scares me.
