Hookworm is spread by feces. Someone took a dump on the beach.

Barefootin’

Robert Parker - 1966

Everybody get on your feet,
You make me nervous when you in your seat
Take off your shoes and pat your feet,
Were doin a dance that can’t be beat
Were barefootin, Were barefootin,
Were barefootin, Were barefootin,

Went to a party the other night,
Long Tall Sally was out of sight
Threw way her wig, and her high sneakers too,
She was doin a dance without any shoes
She was barefootin, She was barefootin,
She was barefootin, She was barefootin,

Hey little gal with the red dress on,
I bet you can barefoot all night long
Take off your shoes and throw them away,
Come back and get them another day
Were barefootin, Were barefootin,
Were barefootin, Were barefootin,

Musical interlude

Lil John Henry he said to Sue,
If I was barefootin would you barefoot too
Sue told John, I’m thirty two,
I was barefootin ever since I was two
They was barefootin, they was barefootin
They was barefootin, we barefootin
We barefootin we barefootin
We barefootin we barefootin
We barefootin we barefootin
We don’t have no shoes on

>>However, Stephens said Canada’s national public health department, Health Canada, denied their request for the medication because it’s not licensed in Canada — so her mother had to drive to Detroit, Michigan, to get the medicine.

What would Canadians do if they didn't have the U.S. to prop up their failing health care system..

Their first mistake was walking barefoot on that beach.
Their second mistake was being indiscreet, having face pics and names attached to this article. Some people will always see these two as being actively infested with worms from this day forward, no matter what ‘treatments’ are taken.

“...Hookworm is spread by feces. Someone took a dump on the beach....”

Is there any possibility of it drifting around from the other side of the island from Haiti, or even perhaps from Puerto Rico? Or is it just from a fresh crap on the beach??

Any local government that allows their beaches to remain this filthy, may be called a sh*t-hole.

Sea water kills hookworms. 75% in one day. At least according to the CABI website.

Punta Cana was hit hard from Hurricane Maria. Their beaches were a mess afterwards. Though they have done a great job restoring the area, I’m sure there was a lot of bad stuff that still has to cleaned up. It’s going to take time.

Beautiful area. Magnificent golf courses.

How nasty. I have never been there, but I have heard Punta Cana referred to as if it’s the diamond of DR’s tourist trade. Yippee.

A quick check shows that these hookworms are from dogs and cats. It’s one reason beaches are normally closed to pets.

I am not questioning why this was posted...but I am wondering why this is news? You can get gross stuff in hour feet at any beach. Beaches in warmer climates are just big incubators.

Any place where human waste is used as fertilizer can breed hookworms.
US Army medical staff was nearly overwhelmed after the takeover of Japan in 1945.

Lawrence charges $3,050 for a treatment. The worms live three to 10 years, and he guarantees infection for three years.

$3k to stomp around in infected feces or allergies. I think I'll keep sneezing.
