'Raw' Water Is Insulting

In 2015, 844 million people lacked access to even a basic drinking water service. These people, almost entirely from developing areas in Africa and Asia, are forced to play roulette by drinking water potentially contaminated with bacteria and viruses that cause diseases like diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio, as well as a variety of parasitic infections. Globally, a half million people die each year from diarrhea contracted via contaminated drinking water, many of them children. Another 240 million suffer from schistosomiasis, a parasitic infestation of flatworms originating from snail feces.

This has to be one of the most idiotic things I have read in 2018 when talking about the untreated water they are selling:

"It's the kind of water we're biologically adapted to," one of his compatriots insists.

Tell that to the millions of people who die or become chronically ill from drinking "raw water".

Even Jack D Ripper had enough sense to drink rain water instead of raw water to protect his precious bodily fluids.

I’ve filtered some rather funky water while backpacking. at the same time, a park ranger told me that if I could get about 100 ft. from shore, Lake Superior water is safe to drink. I must say, it was delicious and cold.

I now use mainly the Sawyer Mini filter.

There’s one state park we use that has wells, but the water hasn’t been certified by the state. We use it for cleanup and cooking, but not to drink.

These people who are knowingly drinking unfiltered and untested water are insane.

If you’ve ever seen shows like “Naked and Afraid”, you would have seen contestants in 90-100 degrees in shadeless areas tempted to drink from the only water available for miles and miles - filled with insects, scum, and animal turds - those that lost the battle paid the price with one lady with a previously promising career permanently disabled with lifelong pains.

Keep your raw water, or at least test it/filter it/boil it.

I’m happy people are free to pursue happiness, however they define it.

I’m happy for people to make their own priorities with their own money.

This is freedom.

Drink away, if that’s your thing.

The irony is that we now have a bunch of inexpensive technologies to provide clean water at scales large enough for entire regions.

Reverse osmosis is old school and consumes a lot of energy. But new technologies such as carbon nanotube filters, as well as solar distillation, air capture, lime, carbon and iron filters against biologicals and arsenic, etc. Systems can be tailored for all kinds of situations.

I’ve designed, installed and used my own well water systems with design safeguards, mechanical safeguards (seals, check valves, proper cistern sizing, etc.), thorough water testing and periodical maintenance measures (including tests) against contamination. People who aren’t amenable to much study and good practices shouldn’t do it.

A friend of mine is a water safety expert for the military. When he first saw the Sawyer, he had this skeptical look on his face.

The next week, he told me that he did some research and pronounced it excellent.

I help lead a boys outdoor troop. Sawyer has reduced water stops from an hour to about ten minutes. Each boy has one.

An approx (true) decimation (reduce by 1/10) of the Socialist left\stupid and people here are *upset* about the same?? HELL, I’ll gladly sign a check to import MORE for ‘em; maybe we can raise to 12%+!
