Out-of-pocket gamblers' fury at victorious Vikings: Last-gasp heroes Minnesota take the knee [tr]

The Minnesota Vikings’ final act of sportsmanship in their shock victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday cost bettors a lot of money. The Vikings won the NFC Divisional Round game over the Saints on a last-second 61-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Stefon Diggs at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. When Diggs ran into the end zone, the clock read 0:00, meaning the game was over. But the rules of football stipulate that even if a team scores a touchdown with no time left on the clock, it still needs to kick an extra point. Diggs’ touchdown gave the Vikings a 29-24 lead. An extra point would have extended the final score to 30-24, a six-point difference.

‘HA HA!!!!!’

Marcus Williams apparently decided to take a knee on the last play of the game; not the brightest bulb evidently...

to say nothing of Keanu Neal of Atlanta taking a knee to complete an interception to the passing team...

Just thinking, why is it the kick holder can have his knee on the ground in college football. Why isn’t he down immediately after catching the ball because yhey always have a knee down.

They changed the rules many years ago allowing the holder to have a knee on the ground in college football.

Gamblers. What would pro sports be without them. More honest probably.

A lot of things flashed before Williams mind in that instant as he was approaching Diggs. He was coming in so fast on him just as the ball was coming towards Diggs that like many suspected, he probably feared getting called for Pass interference as the Saint got that called on them all game long. Yeah it was best to let Diggs catch the ball and then immediately tackle him and game would be over but these things are a split second decisions to make and he whiffed

I swear, a lot of these NFL players have absolutely no Football IQ, whatsoever.

Rules of the game.

A lot of them don't make any sense.

But then, why is the game called "football", since they're not allowed to kick the football around between the players to advance it? The only time the "foot" side of things is involved is during kickoffs and punts (and then only to the opposing team), and extra points and field goals. Any "soccer" player will think of the "football" rules as contradictory and senseless.

Didn’t know that was an actual rule written in magic rule stone.

Not down by contact.

Minnesota...one of the only teams to not have a single kneeler all season.

College doesn’t require contact. Only Pro’s.

Not with the Sports Book it doesn’t. And this article seems to be ignoring the fact that there were probably a lot of people that unexpectedly WON because of this - those with the Saints +5.5 (or at least tied with the Saints +5).

Exactly. Aprox half the bettors will be happy, and half will be bummed.

Given their vig spread, the bookies most often make money.

And you're right: the msm is just being themselves by focusing on and siding with the losers. Many others took the opposite bet and won, but the msm hates winners, so they won't showcase them.

And despite my repeated FR calls for the death of the nfl, go Vikings!

The other reason to root for the Vikings, the NFL will lose a lot of money from the home team playing since fewer people will come into town and stay at hotels and eat at restaurants.

Plus, if it’s the Jags, nobody really cares about them anyway, even in Jacksonville. Oh, sure, they have a bunch of Johnny-Come-Lately fans now, but who is going to leave Florida for Minneapolis in the middle of Winter?
