MADISON, WI - A public hearing on a Republican bill that would end state wolf management efforts is off to a tense start.
Democratic Rep. Nick Milroy began the proceeding in front of the Assembly Natural Resources Committee Wednesday by complaining that the bill's chief Assembly sponsor, Republican Adam Jarchow, didn't show up to address the panel. He said he was disgusted by Jarchow's absence. He said Jarchow proposed the bill simply to appeal to his conservative base as he heads into a special election for an open state Senate seat Tuesday. He questioned whether the committee's chairman, Rep. Joel Kleefisch, called the hearing simply to help Jarchow score political points.
That brought a stinging rebuke from Kleefisch, who promised the election has no bearing on the bill and the committee won't vote on the proposal until after the election is over.
Jarchow aides didn't immediately reply to an email inquiring why Jarchow didn't attend the hearing.
The bill would prohibit the Department of Natural Resources from spending any money to manage wolves other than to reimburse people for depredation. State law enforcement officers would be barred from enforcing any federal or state law relating to wolf management or that prohibits killing wolves.
Wisconsin wolves are on the federal endangered species list. The bill would be void if President Donald Trump's administration removes them from the list.
As usual, those screaming the loudest about harvesting wolves are in Dane and Milwaukee counties - WHERE THERE ARE NO WOLVES!

Wolves have been reintroduced to kill off the game animals normally hunted (deer, moose, etc...).
Then, the bills will come forward to confiscate all rifles because there will be no more hunting.
Sneaky rascals, arent they?
There shouldn’t be any federal or state laws prohibiting the killing of wolves.
Open season 365 24/7 no limits. There is a reason our predecessors hunted these monsters to extinction. Reintroduce them in Manhattan and DC.
Count me too as someone who doesn’t see the need or benefit to having wolves.
“Reintroduce them in Manhattan and DC.”
That would be awesome! ;)
We don’t have wolves by us in SW Wisconsin, but we do have them up at our cabin in northern Wisconsin.
It’s a constant battle between us Bear hunters and the EnviroWeenie, ‘Save the Wolves’ crowd. They go as far as to destroy our bait stumps, etc. For some reason they think our hunting bar ‘bothers’ the wolves. *Rolleyes*
A collection of pin-headed jerks, actually.

More and more, I am coming to understand why our intellegent ancestors hunted the wolf to extinction.
I know...I am on the DNR email list for wolf depredations...mostly hunting dogs in training. Disgraceful.

I think I love you!
Having gone to high school in Dubuque, I spent a lot of time in the driftless area...trout fishing among other things. You may well have some now as we even have occasional sightings here in northeastern illannoy. Have spent a lot of time in Boulder Junction area too. They are definitely up there.
Our cabin is in Glidden, WI. Beau bagged a 538# Black Bear last year. Good eatin’, actually. I was quite surprised! Tastes like beef, but with a looser grain, to my mouth. Gotta cook it low and slow - no fat at all.
P.S. We DO live in a really pretty part of Wisconsin. Oh, heck! ALL of it is pretty gorgeous, really. ;)
There are lots of wolves in Canada and Alaska, why do we need them in the continental U. S. where they have proven to be major (and potentially dangerous) pests?
Their are all sorts of wolves in Minnesota (native I believe) and a bunch in Idaho since they introduce some back in the 90’s. Amazing population growth in Idaho. I think they flew in 8 wolves, and now there are 700 or something in 20 years.
Folks are talking about bringing back the grizzly bear to Washington state. One more thing to worry about while I’m out working in the woods. The cougars already keep me on my toes.
You are blessed with a beautiful state with a ton of natural resources. Green with envy! Have a cousin in Menasha and son in Columbus. Not a hunter but huge “gunman”.`Would hunt tomorrow for wolves.
We need to gather up a few dozen wolves, and release them in Madison

About 8 hours in a crockpot?
That’s perfect for the roasts, but mainly we like the steaks. Marinated, then grilled.
Are you familiar with the, ‘Three Envelope Roast?’
1 packet of Brown Gravy
1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch
1 packet of Italian Dressing
1 cup of water
3-pound roast of any type of meat. (Beef, Pork, Bear, Venison, Worthless Hay-Burning Mule, Random neighborhood dog that poops on your lawn...LOL!) Mix the packets with the cup of water, pour over roast in the crock pot. Cover and set the dial for 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high.
Then - remove the roast to a plate. Add a can of ‘cream of whatever’ soup you like to the mix in the crock pot. Whisk, then put the roast back in.
Perfect roast and gravy every time it’s tried! Serve with potatoes, noodles or rice, bread and a salad.
Life Is Good! :)
