A day after a winner took home the $450 million Mega Millions prize, another single ticket was sold for the even more lucrative Powerball jackpot.

One ticket sold in New Hampshire matched all six numbers to win the $570 million jackpot, according to Powerball's website. The cash value of the jackpot would be at least $300 million if taken as a lump sum.

A Powerball winner may choose to receive the jackpot in 30 annual payments or a one-time payment in cash.

The winning numbers were 12, 29, 30, 33, 61 and Powerball 26.

The winning ticket was sold at a convenience store called Reeds Ferry Market in Merrimack, the New Hampshire Lottery said. The store will be awarded a bonus of $75,000 for selling the winning numbers.

Another way to think about it is if everyone outside of Merrimack, New Hampshire who bought a lottery ticket agreed to give the winnings to you (but only for the big jackpot, not any of the smaller ones), out of those hundreds of millions of tickets sold you still would have lost. You have a better chance of dying in an accident on the way to or back from the store to buy your ticket than you do of winning. But as they say, you can’t win if you don’t play so congratulations to the winner.

I hope the winner takes the award as cash and wisely invests the lump sum for long term growth.

Taking the amount annually (over 30 years) is risky as states are beginning to renege on these payments, claiming they are out of money. Contemptible!

I'm no fan of state lotteries and other government subsidized gambling. Let gamblers go to the casinos. But if the government wants to be a bookie, they ought to pay off their bets.

All their problems have gone away, to be replaced by a whole bunch of new problems.

“...to be replaced by a whole bunch of new problems. “

You can say that again.

I would be much happier winning $5m, than I would one of these mega jackpots.

Someone in Texas had all but one number plus the multiplier number. The ticket is worth over $3,000,000. I got 5 out of 6 once. It was worth $1,700.

Interesting point.....BOTH the Mega Millions ticket AND the Powerball ticket were sold in states with no state income tax....Florida and New Hampshire.

There should be some major tax advantage for this “new philanthropist” to give away a million-dollars each to 510 other NH residents. :)

Exactly. Five million sends your kids to college and pads a nice retirement but isn't so obscenely much that you'd go broke buying everyone you know a home. You could be low-key about it.

$500 million and you'd have to disappear, fall off the face of the earth. The meritless lawsuits alone would be relentless. "She promised to split it 50/50..." "He's my baby daddy!"

Four numbers plus powerball wins $50k or $150k.

Five numbers without powerball is the second place $1 million or $2 million prize.

That was Mega Millions. Two Texas second place winners, one $10k winner.

If I won, since I am a generous guy, I would give everyone in my family a brand new crisp twenty dollar bill.

And they would not even have to ever pay me back!
