I just saw it.
This article gets a lot of stuff— well— wrong.
Here is a glaring Yoda does not destroy the Jedi texts. Nobody does. They are seen, safe and sound, later.
I’ll be seeing it again this Saturday with a group of extended family.
I LOVE Cars Land. Just sayin'....
The Ewoks were in the third installment. Either you skipped what is widely regarded as the Best of the first three, or you're a non-viewer working from others' reviews.
To the matter of cognitive abilities of 13 year olds, if you are suggesting that they are capable of understanding the dynamics of the Kirk-Spock-McCoy, Luke-Han-Leia, or Rey-Finn-Poe triangles, I disagree. Thirteen-year-olds are not experienced enough to grasp the subtleties.

I think that’s really the formula for the original trilogy, which were based on big aspects of some westerns, ww2 movies and classic Asian movies like The Hidden Fortress from Kurosawa.
I am in MA. It is as cold as I ever remember from VT. It’s a warm up the car for twenty minutes cold. I will be adding to my carbon footprint this morning.
Depends on when he said it. If you rewatch the original (I mean the ORIGINAL, find the 4K restoration folks did from the 70mm prints, George has screwed with every home video release) you can see the story changed a LOT. There’s no way Luke and Leia were sibblings, his name actually was Darth, he wasn’t second in command of the Empire, and he probably wasn’t Luke’s dad. Sure going into the prequels George was all “it’s the story of Anakin”. Coming out of the first it was the story of the droids.
They weren’t. They were the New Republic. Then the First Order started, and they rebranded their military arm as The Resistance. We just keep calling them rebels but they actually aren’t. Although now that the FO has functionally won maybe they’ll be rebels again.
It was fun. It’s SW. They’re B movies. People need to remember what they’re watching.
I didn't feel any need to dispute that. Of course Disney is trying to maximize their income, and they are not above screwing up a script just to produce marketable sales. I just don't think that's the primary reason why they screw up scripts. I think they have been on a roll of screwing up scripts for some time, because they do not have the mental foundation necessary to do otherwise. Their world view is warped.
I'm suggesting that they lack real world experience, and instead rely on virtual reality and group think for much of their outlook on the world.
Well, on the positive side, I understand it's quite beautiful when it isn't freezing. :)
I accept that today's children would rather play Wii baseball than go outside and play on a real baseball field. I accept that today's children find it easier to find 18 "friends" online to field an online game rather than find 18 neighbors to meet at the local schoolyard field.
I think, at that age, that's about as far ahead kids will think until they are older.
But I also think that thirteen year olds haven't lived long enough to understand the adult relationship dynamics that lie just below the surface of love-hate-jealousy, and so that's all they see at that point in their lives. When they become sixteen or seventeen and experience their first deep crush and loss, they react explosively because there aren't adult influences today to guide them through these new emotions, so they lash out in despair instead of take the hurt and let it fade over time.
Back to the character triangle, if Kirk-Spock-McCoy represented action-reason-emotion, then Han-Leia-Luke played those same archetypes. I suppose the new characters to fill these roles would be Poe-Rey-Finn. We'll have to see how these characters grow in their archetypes without the aid of an Obi-Wan, Yoda, or Luke to mentor and guide them (unless Luke returns in spirit form).
However, to a thirteen year old, they focus on the Evil Ben Solo, the friendship of Poe and Finn, the potential love triangle of Poe-Rey-Finn, or Rey-Finn-Lucy. Kylo Ren is Ming The Merciless or Snidley Whiplash, Rey is Pauline in "peril," and Poe/Finn are the heroes who rescue her from the buzz saw or oncoming train... to a thirteen year-old, that is. In fact, my own 10-year-old nephew likes Ren because it let's him play at being bad.
Perhaps if today's education system prepared children by exposing them to characters like Tom Sawyer-Slave Jim-Huck Finn in the archetypes, they might learn to see beyond surface characterizations? But in any event, Disney will appeal to the surface characterizations in their theme parks as they offer simulation attractions, dress-up stores, and live-action shows for the kids.

Fun? No, no it was not fun
Well i had fun. Sorry you couldn’t muster a laugh. But that’s on you.
Profund observatipn by Burke, and I suspect the real reason for all this “liberation” and appeal for unconstrained appetite is precisely to set us up for the chains.
When the Vogons destroy planet Earth to clear the way for an interstellar bypass you will wish you had paid attention!
Oh. wait. that’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. nevermind.
Last night I finally got around to watching “The Last Jedi” on Vudu, for about $6.00. I had put it off as I did not want to go to the theater, hate going now and it’s easier to wait for it to hit pay per view.
Well I can’t add to much to the overly negative reviews I have read here and on IMDB. It was terrible!!!!!!!
The Force has now become Magical Sorcery, they are able to do things now never in the previous films. The plot and plot holes were tremendous. The acting though was absolutely the worst I have seen and could have imagined. The Pilot playing the Han Solo want a be had no acting ability what so ever and the rest of the cast just as bad. I felt sorry for Mark Hamill, they took his Luke character and made it horrible and 180 degrees from what it was.
Carrie Fisher looked terrible and I know that there were parts where she was CGI’ed. It was like she just went through the motions. Young Darth Vader was terrible.
Too many others have reviewed this abomination so I can’t anything new, except to say Disney has destroyed the franchise. Glad I did not buy this thing.
