There’s a European dog trainer that has several videos out there showing what his dogs can do. There’s one where I swear the shepherd is a personal protection dog and his training level is beyond belief. I’d rather have that dog beside me than a bodyguard.....

Heheheheh...I have not owned a dog for years, but want to. (I won't have a dog at home with nobody to interact with all day) Maybe when we retire...
I have a cat...and he is a very willful cat...

I watched my girl cat open a box by nudging the lid with equal pressure on each side until it popped off. She is scary smart. And a little diva.
Her brother...not so smart. But very sweet and cuddly.

Cats view a litter box as a sanitary facility.
Dogs view a litter box as a snack bar.

Wow, that took some work to bribe, I mean train those cats! Good show, thanks for posting.

Cats can recognize voice commands.
They simply don’t care to respond.
I tell one of my cats to do something and they look at me like “what the hell do you want?”.
Cats will do things if there is a food reward for it. In other words, they don’t work for free.

My cats definitely know the word treat because I taught them. Youre right about hearing every little sound and knowing what it is too.Our cat definitely knows the word "treats" as well. However, her vocabulary isn't near that of our Corgi.

Our Siberian Husky is like that. She’ll be VERY responsive when she knows there’s a piece of chicken as the reward. Otherwise, she’ll just sit there and blink, pretending she doesn’t understand the command. She also grooms herself like a cat too.

Years ago before the pop top cans, my son would go press down on the electric can opener so the sleeping cat would get up and run into the kitchen, as my son thought the cat needed some exercise.

Unfortunately the brain theory is pretty much crap. Dolphins should be smarter than humans. Dogs should be smarter than crows. Many examples abound that put big dents in the accepted “wisdom”.

Not once have my cats eaten their poop, licked their privates,
Ive never seen one of my dogs eat crap - in 58 years of many dogs.
Cats do walk through feces and urine in litter boxes and then track it around the house.

“The thing I notice about cats, or at least all the cats I have been around, is that they cannot recognize verbal command and phrases outside of their name.”
Our cat definitely responds to the word TUNA. Also banging a spoon against his chow dish produces the same result as a triangle at the chuckwagon. His vocabulary also includes: in, out, no, quiet, treats and probably some others. It’s all about food rewards and affection.
No, he’s not as obedient as a dog, but we’re working on it.
