Malwarebytes

Posted on 11/12/2017 11:19:54 AM PST by Allen In Texas Hill Country

I've used Malwarebytes Premium for quite awhile. Recently it updated itself to 3.3.1. I don't have it running anymore because it stops/hangs Firefox. I've poked around and around on the internet with no clear solution. There was a hint about uninstalling Malwarebytes and reinstalling it. I might try that if no one here has run into the same problem and fixed it. Thought I'd post this, do some chores and come back.

Try refresh your Firefox first.

I have noticed the newer Firefox browser comes with some safe browsing add ons. There could be a conflict with that and M-Bytes.

I am using FF ER ver 52. It has become so sluggish that it is a pain to try to load web pages, etc.

FF has always been notorious about memory management (Mozilla blames that on the extensions/add-ons).

Uninstall all the addons in Firefox.

Reinstall Malwarebytes

Install your addons one a time until you find the one’s causing the problem.

My Bad!!!! Don’t get old. I don’t thnik things out hardly anymore. As suggested previously I refreshed Firefox losing the two major addons I had. Adblock Plus and and and what was the other one that had all my items scheduled that I lost. :<(((((( Hope when I remember what the addon was and I reinstall it it recovers my schedule for the next 8 months.

Anyway after refreshing I did a reboot and Firefox hung again. I kill Malwarebytes and after a minute or two Firefox comes to life. No, Firefox does not come to life if I wait forever as long as Malwarebytes is running. I rebooted and went outside. Came back in after doing more work and Firefox was still hung. I guess I’ll have to join the Malwarebytes forums and post my problem there.

Now what was that addon that had my scheduling???????

I have the same problem, and for some time now. The Malwarebytes support crew had me turn its "self protection" off. That does work, but I do have to restart Malwarebytes from time to time.

Four about three months now..... a fix is coming.

Thanks for the info. I still can’t remember that addon I lost with my todo list. Searched all over Firefox to find it with no luck. Rack my brain......

I have noticed the newer Firefox browser comes with some safe browsing add ons.

The latest versions of Firefox have also eliminated a few things that I've relied on for over a decade, like the handy toolbar buttons that used to reside just above the tabs.

I really wish these tech companies would survey their public before "improving" their products.

I noticed this same issue with Firefox some time ago. I deleted Malwarebytes, then re-installed it, but no joy.

I wound up deleting it again, and won’t re-install it until the company sorts it out.

BTW, the only add-on I have running in the background is Ghostery.

Malwarebytes upgraded me to premium for a free trial. It screwed up my PC, made it close to unworkable, and I don’t even have Firefox. PC went back to normal when trial ended.

No doubt, I had trouble awhile back getting Adblock Plus back in Firefox. I eventually got it back, thankfully. It is my favorite ad block add-on.

After so many years of using FF, the last couple of releases turned out to be incredible memory consumers that I tested some other browsers...

However (gasp!), I finally turned to Chrome...Very ashamed to publicly admit this, but felt I had to come out of the closet...

Now this is really really crazy. Something made me put Pale Moon in my startup list and then I rebooted.

I can’t believe what happened. Firefox came up and is running fine but now Pale Moon is hung. But one side effect I was glad to see. I have not run Pale Moon for a long time so when it came up and before it hung the addon that I need displayed a list of all the events that I had not cleared.

Its Today’s Reminders!!!! At least thats the box that popped up. Now I’ll kill Malwarebytes and see if Pale Moon starts running again.

The addon is ReminderFox. I installed it but the list is empty... :<(((

Well as I accidentally found out I have an old list with Pale Moon. Just have to manually move over whats relevant.

Now when do I change my oil??????????????

Do I leave Pale Moon in the startup list so that FireFox runs???? Thats kinda a joke, but maybe not.

There is a way to get those back if you play around with the settings. It is difficult to figure out however. Every time I have to do it- It has taken me awhile to figure out.

“Install your addons one a time until you find the one’s causing the problem.”

Look at your add ons in fire fox. Under “Extensions” Notice any that are marked “Legacy”. In a few days firefox 53 is coming out. If you install it then none of those addons marked “Legacy” are going to work anymore. In my case that includes about 5 that I really use. That includes “No-Script” by the way. NO-Script will no longer function unless you disallow the update to firefox.

Hmm... Might be worth the challenge. I really hate the new and 'improved' layout.
