Roy Halladay appeared to be hot doggin' it in his plane in the moments before his crash -- making extreme and unusual changes in altitude ... this according to multiple witnesses. TMZ Sports has obtained footage shot by boaters who say the ex-MLB star's plane was going from 100 feet in the air down to 5 feet and then back up again ... repeatedly.

It may have been out of control.
This model has claimed even it’s own designer.................
He could have been having control or even mental or physical problems before the crash, which would have made it look like he was ‘hotdogging’, right?
A very large percentage of private airplane crashes occur when the pilot decides to fly over his neighborhood to say hello.
There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots. But there are no old, bold pilots.
Apparently trying his hand at aerobatics.
Chuck Yeager is 94... :-)
According to the article, one witness said he'd been flying like that all week. (aggressively)
An amphibian buzzing close to the water would be cool . . . right up until it wasn’t. Judging your altitude over water is tough enough to do, when you are NOT messing around. Here, a momentary lapse is easily fatal.
Too, bad, for a pilot that wasn’t really endangering anyone but himself.
Airplanes with a seaplane hull are designed to land on water and the hull shape can exhibit adverse aerodynamic and control response in unusual attitudes so one does not maneuver them like an aerobatic aircraft
Icon A5. Being sold as easy to fly to get more people flying.
At least nobody else died with him or was hurt?
He made 3 May Day calls.
For that I would conclude these were distress maneuvers, not show boating.
He was just having fun. Not everything has to have someone or something to blame. He was having fun in his new plane that he wanted for most of his life. He thought he could do more with it than he actually could and payed the ultimate price. May he rest in peace.
He used their marketing video as a training video. Bad move.
It looks cool to glide down and skim the water, but it is not something a smart pilot would do. Glide above minimum speed and land gently.
Flying at Va (maneuver speed) then touching down on the water is very dangerous. Show boating about sums it up!
Source?
I do believe that gravity was the main culprit.
The two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.
He might have broke the aircraft while fooling around - over-gee'd it or who knows - and then his hot dogging became a fight for his life.
Do you have a source for this? Everything I've read, except USA Toady, says he made no distress calls. (USA Toady says that he made three calls, as you stated)
The Sheriff's Dept. says Roy did not make a mayday call before he went down, and they've already recovered his body. (See: EX-MLB STAR ROY HALLADAY DEAD AT 40 IN FATAL PLANE CRASH)
