At the halfway point now in the NFL season, the much traveled Oakland Raiders pulled off a Sunday Night Football win against the Miami Dolphins as yet again protest stole much of the games thunder. The Raiders Week 9 27-24 victory saw the Dolphins Michael Thomas, Julius Thomas and wide receiver Kenny Stills kneel during the national anthem.
Thats the first such protest by players for the Florida franchise since the teams coach instituted a rule against such displays. It is also the first game for the Dolphins since their owner and the players put together an annual fund for advocacy and social justice programs on November 4. On yet another Sunday of big games and Daylight Savings Time catch ups, the SNF protests last night came as ratings for the league are down 5% from the numbers stumbles of last season and nearly 19% from a similar point in the 2015-2016 season.
Pulling focus to last nights sometimes fog drenched SNF, the NBC broadcast game snared a 9.6/16 in metered market results.
Up a scant 2%, thats pretty steady with last weeks SNF season low when the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Detroit Lions and SNF faced a very dramatic Game 5 of the 2017 World Series. That 8:30 11:30 PM ET game result went on to draw a NFL tepid 4.8/15 among adults 18-49 and 13.86 million viewers. Even with a season of ratings slides, that was a rare loss of a Sunday for the NFL and the Comcast-owned net to the 5.3/17 and 18.94 million that the baseball game and Fox scored.
Year-to-year, last nights Raiders vs. Dolphins battle declined 18% from the early numbers of the comparable game of last year, which Oakland won.
Yep, back on November 6, 2016, the Raiders solidly took down the Denver Broncos 30-20 at home in the Bay Area on SNF. Also no longer facing a World Series, that Week 9 game of last year eventually ended up with a 6.6/20 rating and 18.33 million viewers. That result was the best SNF had done after several weeks of ratings tackles.
With the numbers coming in a little later today because of the change in the clocks over the weekend, we will later update with more SNF results plus how Wisdom of the Crowd, Shark Tank and other shows. Here, in the meantime, are the local markets MM numbers:
Sacramento 16.1/27 New Orleans 16.1/22 San Francisco 14.3/27 Buffalo 14.2/22 Richmond- 13.9/21 Miami 13.6/24 Denver 13.2/23 Albuquerque 13.1/20 Las Vegas- 12.7/20 West Palm Beach 12.5/20
The No Fans Left league.
2 social justice teams playing each other. Yawn.
I don’t know if they showed the sitters or kneelers, but fans are not stupid - there is a list each week of which idiots are still pulling this crap.
NFL - believe that is a prison sports league of some kind - maybe like the movie The Longest Yard?
I watched nothing yesterday. I have been slowly reducing my consumption, like cutting down on cigarettes. I am now down to zero.
I have more energy and breath more easily!
Exciting College Games as the Ohio State and Penn State lost
I confess I watched it for the Raiders. They don’t show their games much here so I watch them when I can. Didn’t see the anthem.
Well, the NFL thinks they are. Yesterday during a game there was a commercial with closeups of players declaring their love and pride of America.
The obvious phoniness and backpedaling of it I hope was not lost on whoever saw it.
Sure the ratings were up; why should they be down? The whole thing is blowing over and everyone agrees with the thugs. Negro Fatigue Syndrome? No such thing because everyone White or Black is down with the America hating brothas do I have it about right?
If ratings are down 20%, attendance and sale of merchandise down about the same, the players should get hit much worse than 20% when negotiating new contracts.
The owners will still have their fixed cost to cover. The decline in revenues will bring even greater squeeze on player’s contracts.
As in previous weeks this year, I can’t even tell you who played who let alone the scores.
One exception. I know the local team played the Falcons, but don’t know the score.
God help me, I actually watched an MLS Soccer game yesterday to avoid the NFL.
It was a playoff game, New York at Toronto.
It was being played in a monsoon. Both teams were down
to ten men because one from each team received a red card
for “a violent incident in the tunnel at halftime” (??).
Six yellow cards for mouthing off at the referee.
Toronto now has to go into their next playoff round
with their two best players suspended for red/yellow cards.
A rule without sanctions is merely advice.
Yup, mere wishful thinking. Libtards do a lot of that.

Only sports I watched this weekend was Dortmund vs Bayern Munich.
Checking Amazon deals today with Christmas in mind, NFL stuff like kids pjs, coffee mugs, etc was 40% off. I hope soon they’re giving it away and still no takers,
I should have watched that instead of NASCAR.
Actually, the nap is the same no matter what’s on the TV.
