Perhaps you bought a prescription online, or a back brace.

Best advice: Ignore it. Ethical practitioners would not be inviting you to anything. If you go, next thing you know you’ll have a time share on your hands.

There is no shame in having a nerve problem, or any physical problem for that matter. Only shame is the self inflicted health problems...smoking, drinking excessively, illegal drugs etc.

Second, go attend the free lunch, it should not force you to buy anything. I rarely miss a free lunch seminar. And I rarely buy what they peddle at those free lunches.

It is your insurance company trying to reduce their ongoing bill with you.

This company likely provides some sort of “alternative therapy” that is cheaper than what you’re costing them now.

While you may not remember it, you signed a release when you signed up for your insurance that lets them share your info for “necessary medical purposes”.

Could be a family member who “innocently” spilled the beans.

When one fills out medical forms, there’s a section which asks what ailments siblings and parents have. They want to know if something is hereditary.
I never fill out that part, just cross it out. I figure if I fill it out then I am breaking the privacy agreement my family members signed.

I also use a purple pen when filling out forms just in case something is added by the nurse or doctor...and I always ask for a copy of the paperwork AFTER the doctor has seen me.

If you've searched for anything or brought anything online related to back pain, thousands of entities know you probably have a back pain problem. They want to help you. /s 😉

The downside of EMR's is that they are the target of hackers looking to score the mother-load. Unfortunately smaller hospitals and physicians cannot afford the level of security required to secure their networks properly. If I remember correctly, Obamacare mandates EMR's or gives incentives to their use. it is possible that your records have been hacked, and the hack has not yet been identified.

Having said that, I am leaning towards browser cookies as others have stated.

Siri ratted you out. And that bitch lies too. You’re lucky it was just back pain, those blue pills I was talking about were vitamin supplements. Honest! I don’t know why my mailbox keeps filling up with ED meds...

If you are taking a specialized medication for a specific issue, a pharma company may send an invitation to you to attend a presentation by medical specialists. You & spouse can go have a nice lunch and listen to presentation and ask questions. Usually you have had contact with the pharmaceutical company such as information & education, or financial assistance, help with cost of medication etc.

I did not scan the thread to see if this has already been
suggested but if not then contact the entity who sent
the invite. Ask them how they got your info without
revealing too much info about your case. Be friendly
and positive so you don’t alarm them. But be ready for
them to indicate in some way that their contact with
you is merely coincidental.

Technically your are asking for someone to practice law without a license. You could cut to the chase and ask those who sent you the invitation how they got your name. Most likely at some time you purchased a product associated with people having back nerve problems and that info was sold to a third party by the credit card company. Always check the statement you receive that explains when your credit card company may share information and your whether you can opt out.

Medical professionals do not invite prospective patients to a “luncheon” to discuss their problems. You are being pranked or you are pranking us. Either way stfuagtfo

After I had my twins I received a news paper from a Caesarian support group. The headline implied I could redeem myself for my failure as a woman by having a VDAC, or vaginal delivery after Caesarian. I was furious. No one would tell me how they got my name. It could have been a nurse. Hell, it could have been housekeeping. Yeah, you can ask where they got your name. They’ll just shrug their shoulders. There’s no such thing as privacy anymore. There probably never was.

Your smartphone may be leaking your whereabouts. Went to visit my doctor, a few days later my doctor’s personal Facebook page was a friend suggestion. Spooky in a bad way.

Doctors violate Hiippa every day. I drive my 20 something son to doctors. I pay his bills. You would not believe how many docs come to the waiting room and start speaking to me about my son’s condition or reason for visit. I let them talk, while my son fumes, then I say, “You’ve just violated the Hiippa laws.” They stumble and stutter. They also do this for my mom (Alzheimers) without having any document saying I am her legal guardian. I am, but they have never asked. They need to discuss her condition with only me, but they should demand legal coverage.

The cover for your doctor or medical group for inviting you to this is that they will invite EVERY PATIENT IN THR GROUP even if the lecture or seminar doesn’t apply to them. I have a pituitary tumor and am always invited to Cedars Sinai (and they gots good lawyers) Pituitary events. No Hiippa violation as they gave my address or email, NOTHING about my condition. Plenty of the topics do not apply to me at all. I bet your docs are in the clear here, even though docs as per above mess up on Hiippa all the time.

Invited you to a luncheon? It’s a scam. Run. Don’t stop. Just run. Don’t communicate with them at all.
