Vanity - Love, Caring, Decency, Compassion are alive & well in the American Republic.

Posted on 10/29/2017 5:42:26 AM PDT by JLAGRAYFOX

The other day the wife and I were shopping in a "Walmart store in South Florida for some Christmas goodies. We finished, paid for our stuff and were on our way out to the car. I stopped my wife and, told her to sit, relax, I had to go to the "little boys" room.

I walked into the bathroom did my thing, and was washing my hands, when I noticed this young Black guy trying to manipulate his wheel chair into the bathroom to relieve himself. He was having a hard time, struggling with the wheel chair.

Before I could go over to him to assist, this young White dude shows up, grabs the steering handles on the wheel chair, and promptly wheels the struggling dude over to the toilets. He lines the kid up with the toilet, asked him if he needs any more help, the kid says I'm OK now.

But, the kid is having a rough time getting up and out of the wheel chair...so, I run over and two other guys do the same thing. We help the kid stand up and, tell him we are going to back off and give you your privacy, but, we'll be right behind you when you finish and place you safely back in your wheelchair. The kid says thank you, with a gigantic smile on his face. The White guy that first helped move the wheel chair. plants him back in the seat of the wheel chair, turns to him and says, "Hey dude, are you cool & OK now, can we help with anything else". The kid says, "no, I'm`perfectly fine now". The white guy heads out the bathroom exit, turns and utters "Dude, God be with you, always & may God bless and keep you, forever.

We all look at each other, and then go our own ways. Yes, Virginia, my child, love, understanding, caring & compassion is alive and well in these "Free United States of America". Stay Great America, Always!!!

Be ye kind, one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another

A Wise Book once taught me that...

Thanks for the great post!

One reason the American people are generous and kind is that we live in a land of plenty. THE reason we live in a land of plenty is because we are a Christian nation (if we were of another religion which I won’t mention, we would be constantly seeking revenge and fighting one another).

Let us trust in God and keep the spirit of the Lord alive through our actions.

Great story. No one asked who he voted for, how he ended up in the chair, etc. America is not as divided as the enemedia would have us believe.

God bless you, first of all.

I'm not surprised. Since the election I've heard a few people - including comedian Bill Burr - comment that there are billions of daily interactions that transcend race, religion, and other lines. Nobody (or few) checks each other's voter registration card, ask to see their papers, or ask for their views on the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.....we treat each other with common decency as our Lord commanded us and get on with our day.

Sure, we may have a concealed weapon while we go about our business, and we may not help some shady character who is up to no good...we aren't idiots. But, in general Life Under Trump has not become void of humanity. Indeed, the enemy would have PREFERRED that you walk by that situation.

Stories like yours warm my heart. The are a sober reminder that we are individuals first...not a collective, and that in the end good will triumph over evil (though it may take a while). That said, while I would like to think an Antifa rep would do the same for a well-dressed man in a wheelchair, sadly I doubt it. Nonetheless, our side carries on as we've been called to do.

Again, God bless you.

Once instance doesn’t speak for the nation. I’m far more cynical.

I find this very typical behavior for the part of the country I live in. I’m an ofwg (old fat white guy), and I’ve been going around helping people in like manner for years. I doubt if anyone that knows me (except, possibly, my wife and kid) is aware of this, because I don’t brag about it. It’s just how I live my life.

People everywhere tend to be good and decent. You did a good thing. You did the right thing.

It is important to note that news, by definition, is the exception, not the rule.

I’m glad to see this but I suspect it’s a more regional thing. One of the things I see in the south is a slow coarsening of manners. Hopefully we can keep southern gentility going notwithstanding the larger cultural changes.
