Since early in the last century, following a suggestion by President Theodore Roosevelt, boxing has been taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Last year, for the first time since female cadets were admitted in 1976, boxing classes became mandatory for cadets of both sexes.

Sheesh...these guys never got into a fist fight in school??
Both....Ha... as if there are only two.
“Sheesh...these guys never got into a fist fight in school??”
Both would have been expelled for “fighting” am I not correct Metmom?
“Both....Ha... as if there are only two. “
Back in 1976 there were!!
Gals.
But near as I can tell, USMA figures it’s easier to teach a brainiac to be a brute than to turn a brute into a brainiac.
West Point has bigger problems.
Indeed they do.
I forgot about that picture. Never heard what happened, if anything, to the power sisters.
Funny how somehow there’s no such thing as black supremacy in the lexicon of the left.
And don’t forget the recent commie cadet.
Boxing is part of the curriculum, but making boxing mandatory for female cadets is new.
Stepping up from eye-scratching and hair-pulling.
About time to make it mandatory for females because aren’t we all the same, after all, I see little Buffy on TV, all 100lbs of her, beating the stuffing out of some 225lb guy.
Now that boxing is mandatory, the next question: are they going to make boxing co-ed, pairing men with females?
If they don’t go co-ed, then this is a nothing burger.
After one particularly rough day of training (the same training) they brought the cameras to several members of both platoons. The guys were clearly exhausted, sore and even a bit dispirited but every one of them made it clear that they would carry on.
The women were weeping like little girls.
Women in combat? BS! Women at the Service Academies? BS! Women in the military? Sure...in support roles.Nowhere near combat.
One Phys. Ed Instructor told me that 95% of incoming cadets have never been in a physical altercation before (I was in the 5%). Face it--we are generally talking about "good kids" who are usually from upper middle-class backgrounds.
For me, what was even more educational was the Close Quarters Combat class I took in my final year. We learned about knives and clubs. And just thinking seriously about being in a knife fight focuses the mind wonderfully. And what was also revealing was the attitude of the instructors-- don't fight fair.
How can a decent man enroll if, as part of his trading, he has to punch women? I am horrified. This is so horrible.
Then surely you should be keeping up with your fellow alumnae on that cadet Spenser Rapone........How is that progressing?
Not so fast.....let's get Rosie O & Hillary enrolled. I'd be punching above my weight.....especially with Rosie but I'd pay to go ten rounds with them!
As long as they’re the same size then it would be required coed I would think.
You’re joking, right?
One of my childhood’s most important lessons - getting punched in the face isn’t nearly as bad as it looks and is not a reason to back down from a bully. And after you take the punch, you get to hit back.
It might be worthwhile to make the women train in boxing to build toughness and character, but regardless of how skilled they got, their boxing would be useless in the real world against anything other than other women.
