I wonder how many people just don’t go to movies anymore due to such reasons.

There was a time not too long ago when the best home theater meant a 36" Sony Trinitron CRT with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a hi-fi VCR that played out of your component stereo speakers. If you were like me, you rented VHS tapes in letterbox (if you could find them) to have something resembling wide-screen.

Todays 65", 70" and even bigger 4k UHD TVs have come down in price where even a low wage earner can afford one and decent quality surround sound can be had for a couple hundred bucks as well. And all from the comfort of your sofa and all the refreshments in your fridge.

Why go to the theaters? Unless you're a teen who wants a date night away from mom and dad, there's just no reason.

Played “The Wild Bunch” at home a few days ago. Such a great movie!

Yes I agree about today’s leading men. They don’t even compare to the actors from the Golden Era. I prefer watching older movies.

Let’s see, Hollywood defecates from a great height on the majority of their customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week and they are shocked, shocked that these people don’t obediently line up to pay exorbitant prices for their mediocre product. That is indeed a great surprise.

Yeah I only go a few times a year also and usually only go for Star Wars and Marvel movies.

It doesn’t help that they constantly insult normal Americans and abuse their employees.

I haven't been to a theater in decades. With the widescreen TV, I can watch at home.

I have watched many of the newer CGI adventure flicks. After an hour-and-a-half I am looking at scenes they could have shortened or eliminated completely. More CGI does not necessarily make it better.

At least, at home, the film is usually via Cable ON DEMAND, Netflix/Amazon Prime streaming, or TiVo recording. Thus, I can pause and continue when I want.

Movies longer than an hour-and-45 minutes usually sit in my Netflix/AmazonPrime queue for months before I make time to watch.

"Left wing crap, left wing crap, left wing crap."

This! How many productions start off well and then make a hard left turn?! The minute they introduce a liberal slant: homosexual support, first amendment opposition, global warming, anti Judeo-Christian, evil America and on and on... I'm out! Lately, I don't even go in.

I’ve got an idea: maybe they should start the film with a waving American flag backdrop, play the national anthem, and have the entire cast and crew “take a knee”...

Hollywood, the NFL... just more of the liberal leftist rot afflicting a once great nation.

I saw it about a week ago. To buy in you have to believe a toaster and a boy can fall in love. Lost me from the get go

However throughout the picture I wondered who the actors/actresses had to bed down with to get the gig. And that’s where I am with Hollywood. I just assume everyone is cravenly corrupt

Why would “Blade Runner 2049” be a big hit when the 1982 movie wasn’t?

I was in my 20's when the original Blade Runner movie premiered. Great critic reviews --- I hated it. It just seemed like a mess to me. I still couldn't tell you what it was about; AND, dark -- it was shot in such a way that I had a hard time seeing what was going on because it was so dark.

Wasn't going to waste money to see another one.

Where are the “leading men” like Fonda, Stewart, Wayne, Welles, Peck, Bogart, Grant, Crosby, Tracy, Cooper, Brando, Newman, Gable, etc.

The no longer exist. All gay, all the time; and, if they are not "gay", they are not really masculine either.

the movie industry has always aimed for the young viewers...they are not getting them because of other forms of entertainment. I am 50 and occasionally see a movie. what I see missing is the 15-25 year olds that made up 90 percent of the audience when I was between 15 and 25. when I go most of those I actually see in the movie theater are my age. gone is the time when 2 weeks after the opening you have kids going for the second or third time to the same movie.

My gosh. We have been watching Designated Survivor and finding it tolerable. So a show about a national tragedy where most elected officials are killed by bombs and mideastern terrorists suddenly becomes all about gun control, complete with every damned liberal canard.

Isn’t there anything we can watch anymore without intrusion from the communists?

I quit Designated Survivor when it spend one episode on gun control and the next episode continued the issue. I turned it off and have not returned.

CW’s Arrow also did an episode on gun control, but their script was less preachy with hints that some guns are necessary.

“Film reviewers over time have become self-described art critics, more and more disconnected from the audience.”

indeed. film reviewers basically write reviews for each other, not potential audience members. they each try to outdo the others with obscure references and cute phrasing. not to mention that their primary criteria as to whether a movie is worthy is how PC it is.

“I didn’t go to Blade Runner because the previews looked boring, all CGI stuff.”

the original is one of my all time favorites, and I figured this remake was going to be a complete bomb, relying primarily on CGI instead of story, character, acting and dialog, which is the case with pretty much all scifi and comic book based movies.

“Besides, it won’t be long until it’s out on Redbox or Netflix.”

only problem is that a bad movie doesn’t improve when it can be watched later for “free”. a bomb is a bomb is a bomb.

I liked the original Blade Runner too. The time before CGI.

Hollywood is a cesspool, and Weinstein just made it clear for all to see.
