The teacher is accused of placing the tape on the mouths of ten students; three other students taped their own mouths, said district leaders. They were all sent to a school nurse for observation, then sent back to class. The teacher was immediately removed and banned from the campus, a school district leader said.

"Everyone of them checked out. They're all fine, but it could've been a dangerous situation, no question. And that's the type of thing that can make a child sick or cause other problems,"

Killeen is Ft. Hood. 65% of students are low income it's predominantly black.

If that's all the sub did, then she/he demonstrated much self restraint.

Since the teacher was banned, those 3 who put tape on their own mouths should be expelled for the rest of the year. Oh, the hugh manatee!!!

Let’s see tape over the mouth...

I think I would’ve rather had that then being slammed up against the wall by Mr. Carpenter.

Then, and again, I much preferred that to the old man’s belt when I got home.

I found this hilarious. Recalling my own Third Grade experience with having my own big mouth taped, I was very embarrassed and ashamed. I wonder if my reactions then, even exist in kids today? I hope so.

The little darlin's probably deserved it, but you can't do that kind of thing these days.

My junior high math teacher had the biggest paddle I've ever seen hanging behind his desk and in those days he could use it. Thing is, I don't remember him ever having to.

Is there any talk of duct tape control?

What about duct-tape-free zones?

The question is, did they deserve it?
Teachers don’t have much authority any more. They can’t really discipline disruptive kids. They have do what they can...

Why waste the tape? Just lipstick ‘em to the chalkboard

I guarantee you...with that population, you don’t do much teaching. It’s mostly about crowd control. Most don’t have enough impulse control to even sit in their seats.

It's fine to duct tape the principal to the wall with a dozen rolls but one piece of tape on the little punks is a big no-no.

No way they are the least bit embarrassed about it.

when I was in high school 35 years ago that was regular punishment in shop class I had for talking out of turn. thought nothing about it all these years and in my mind it seemed appropriate for the crime. the teacher was also a favorite of the students that did this.

Duck/duct taping someones mouth can be dangerous for some. I, for one, have severe sinus issues and only maybe 20% air capacity through the nose.

I am very much purely a mouth breather, so even though the students may deserve some punishment, the teacher, not knowing any potential health issues, was not thinking clearly in this instance.

My elementary school teachers did tape mouths shut, but not with duct tape. A small piece of scotch tape was used so the child could still breath through the sides of the mouth if needed. The kids got the message. Today’s kids are so entitled, though. I don’t know if this would work on them.
