‘bout time.
Also MIA - Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Deep Purple...to name a few...
My opinion of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pretty low. If you take a look at the classic R&B and Rock bands that are not in there, and some young flash in the pan new bands that are in there, it just makes no sense. Bands with 40-50 year history, 2 dozen albums, worldwide tours. Not in there. Bands with 3 albums and you don’t know a single song. In there.
Whatever.
Had their albums in the late 60s-early 70s.
One of my favorite groups.
Seemed to me a lot of thought and skill went into their intricate creations.
Yep - the Moody Blues were big while I was in High School/fresh in the AF, and I still listen to their music.
As long as michael jackson and madonna are in the “hall of fame” it’s all good!
Good for them. Their “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” is one of my faves.
Its about time
I’m in favor of it
If you lived it you understand it
It was a reach and they barely achieved it and sometimes it was hammy
But in those Owsley and Nick Sand days
Nobody could soundtrack the return part of the experience like them
It was soothing and melodic and cool orchestral parts and very lyrical in a literary way
We would sit in the dorm room and just chill for hours running through all of it for as we sailed back in from the Pink Floyd and Axis Bold as Love soundtrack of the first half of the ride
It was literally the Threshold of a Dream
But like most here we idealistic naive lads grew up and had families and go to church and stay married and have a grandkids now
But that moment in time for me....the Moody Blues mattered
On the long 500 mile drive to Rosemary Beach and all but my 17 year old is asleep.....I’ll put on Days of Future Passed or or any of the first four LSD albums
Half awake sleepy Tom Pettty gen X Wifey will mutter daddy is reliving old glories
Same when I put on pigpen era Dead
I do not condone lsd use.....it’s dangerous
Anyhow...I’m glad they are getting in ....they really did try to hit a peak...no one else was like them
Originally they were like the Dave Clark Five.....British beat hullabaloo music ....then Uncle Sid arrived and changed all that
Very English
Finally....still love them...
I don’t know if they, or some of them, are nominal Christians or have a real faith in Christ Jesus, but they did a wonderful job with “WHAT CHILD IS THIS?” I believe they recorded that in the early 70’s.
The Christian Hymnal is full of some of the most beautiful music ever written. Some of it goes back 1500 or more years. Why some popular musicians do not explore its depths is beyond me. Too hokey for them, I guess.
I just saw the list. The ones I’d vote for are Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Meters and Link Wray. Meters and Link Wray have been nominated before, they need to be in there.
Nights in White Satin.................4eva !
Kind of silly that Denny Laine will get in the hall of fame with the Moody Blues before he gets in with Wings, even though Wings had a lot more hits.
LOVED the Stone's "Wild Horses" for the tune and the instruments but actually paid attention to the words ( like a poet ) the other day;
[Verse 1]
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady, you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
[Chorus]
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
[Verse 2]
I watched you suffer a dull, aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Can make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
[Chorus]
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
[Verse 3]
I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die
[Chorus]
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses,we'll ride them some day
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
And the point of this post is that "our" music of back then was very soulful.
The Moody Blues were SO ahead of their time in musicality and technology and I was blessed to have been born in '48 to be around for that musical era ... albeit very stoned.
THIS post surprises me because I thought they were already there.
And so is Donna Summer. That's why the RRHOF is such a joke.

Link Wray is The Guitar Man. I remember his music when I used to listen to AM radio in the second and third grades in the ‘50’s. I recently got into listening to his music on Youtube.
Not completely sure of HOW it all came about (I read it a long time ago), but GFR was one Iof my favorites and then sort of disappeared.
i always attributed the "disappearance" to my drugged out state and that everything really was OK
