He is best known for his comedy work, finding huge success with cartoon TV show Family Guy and the Ted films. But Seth MacFarlane ventured into the sci-fi world on Sunday night, as his new series The Orville, inspired by Star Trek, made its debut on Fox. The actor, 43, stars as Ed Mercer on the show, and follows his attempt to captain a spaceship 300 years in the future with his co-pilot Kelly - who also happens to be his adulterous ex-wife, after he finds her in bed with an alien.

Was terrible. Big flop, but Seth’s already made his money.

Doesn’t even sound appealing.
Absolutely nothing redeeming about the show
Waste of bandwidth
I watched it, I wasn’t expecting much but it was not horrible at all- I don’t understand the reviews here.
I know he is a flaming libtard, so that makes it hard to judge him fairly in some peoples minds.
I will watch it again. I hope to re-catch this episode because I missed some of it due to a work phone call.
The reviews I read said it is not a comedy.
It was horrible. It could have been good, but they started with a lousy premise, weak plot, one-dimensional characters, and it was just not funny. Huge fail.
I enjoyed it. lot of character building this episode. Might find it’s way to get better.
Like the terrible movies lately, sequels of remakes because no one has any creativity or dares to dream bigger than the welfare paradise-prison they seek to build. Here kids, a show your parents enjoyed, except with our ham-fisted doses of liberalism and western shame.
I sat through 40 minutes, waiting for it to become funny. Hopefully, whoever greenlit this is going to be applying at Starbucks by Friday.
Adrienne Palicki deserves a better show...
It isn't funny, special effects are awful, and the captain is whiny.
What kind of smile is that? Yikes!
Was funny, but was nothing like Star Trek. “Inspired by,” sure, but completely different. It did not take itself seriously.
It needs to be 30 minutes not an hour
I’ve been a trekkie of sorts for forever. That means watching it when it was mediocre as well as superb. When I saw the promo for the new series I instantly knew that this would be as close as I would ever come to watching it.
Screw MacFarlane
When every character was derived from some character in an earlier series there isn't room for many surprises.
That’s sums it up pretty well.
Did not expect much from it, but I did watch. It was rather sluggish, not any real laugh-lines, but was tolerable.
Will watch another episode or two to see how it goes. It doesn’t have competition in that timeslot.
It seemed more of a spoof of the 60s sci-fi.
