Nearly four years have passed since Angels Flight derailed on a trip down Bunker Hill, leaving a lone passenger shaken, but unhurt.

Since then, the funicular’s twin cars — Sinai and Olivet — have perched unused on their steep, short track...

The wait will end Thursday, when Angels Flight resumes shuttling passengers between Bunker Hill and Hill Street.

The homeless will occupy it, no doubt.

A fun but short ride. Went on it years ago before it closed.

Angels Flight was closed for about two decades or more from the late 60s/early 70s to late 90s. Then it reopened. For about a year. The Michael Connelly novel Angels Flight took place during that small window. Then it closed for years. Then it reopened. Then it closed again.

In the Case of the Twice Told Twist, the only Perry Mason episode filmed in color, Perry and Della Street ride it.

I can pretty much tell you exactly how this will play out.

First, lookee-loos and tourists will gather, uncontrollably, at the top and bottom, creating a dangerous crowd-control situation. Within 20 days, an oppressed minority will fall or stumble or get pushed in some way and fall, launching a lawsuit to be ultimately settled for $1.7 million in about 3 years.

Within 45 days there will be a shooting of a tourist from the Midwest who accidentally disrespected a perfectly legitimate upcoming gang banger.

In the ensuing scattering of waiting passengers, between 8 and 17 will be injured falling onto concrete barriers and curbs and will be looking to sue the City of LA for failing to provide a safe situation. Those suits will settle in about 2.5 to 3 years for about $12 million, collectively.

In response, the City of LA will apportion approximately $629,000 to some organization newly formed owned by the cousin of a city councilperson to conduct a safety scoping protocol complete with an environmental impact statement. The study will recommend the construction of waiting shelters that can safely accomodate handicapped folks and folks riding wheelchairs and will include cis and transgendered restrooms, top and bottom. (That’s 5 restrooms at the top and 5 at the bottom for those keeping count) The construction costs will run between $12 and $17 million. The annual leasing costs for the footprints needed to build the shelters will run about $2 million.

The City will then appropriate $3.73 million annually to hire and train 16 security guards and a supervisor who will work rotating shifts at the top and bottom and be incorporated into the city payroll. They will undergo comprehensive diversity training at a cost of $19,500 each, carried on by a newly formed company devoted precisely to this kind of thing, owned by the nephew of a city councilperson.

The amortized cost per ride on the newly re-constructed funicular railway in a part of LA where *very* few people walk will probably get to about $1150 per passenger trip. The actual fare will be $1.50.

Absolutely classic insider LA scam.

You left out the part about the homeless urinating and defecating in the car overnight, generating a public outcry...and a study to study the solutions to this new problem.

Thorougly enjoyed the Bosch series from the begining. But this last one continues his SJW tack. In the new one he introduces a new female detective as the main character and by page 15 the victim of a very brutal and fatal beating is discovered to be a guy in a dress. Banged the covers shut. Last straw. In fact the last three have been slowly edging leftwards. Too bad.

Glad that the Amazon Bosch series turned out as well as it has, although it follows the same SJW trajectory.
