HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. A man with a history of "emotional issues" used a hammer to bludgeon his mother, his sister and another woman to death in his Long Island home on Saturday, police said.

Authorities said the three women were found dead inside the Vanderhall's Hempstead, New York, home of "blunt force trauma" at about 2:15 a.m.
A fourth woman survived the assault and is hospitalized.
Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick, commanding officer of the Nassau County police homicide squad, told Newsday that Vanderhall's mother had recently kicked him out of the house.
"When he came here last night and it looked like the doors were secured, he became enraged," Fitzpatrick said. "He went to the garage. He obtained a large hammer. ... With this framing hammer, he broke through the basement door."

Hempstead is a bad neighborhood.
For me....the thought of eating carrot cake would give me emotional issues. I shudder at the thought of putting carrots into a desert. Though nothing that would cause me to resort to a framing hammer or unlock my gun safe.

Anna, ILL., Sept 10 - At about 10 o’clock last night the jury in the Sam Hazel murder trial rendered their verdict, after being out some five hours, and the brutal child-murderer was sentenced by Judge D. M. Browning to the penitentiary for ninety-nine years. The trial occupied a week of the Circuit Court’s time at Jonesboro, and much interest was manifested in it by people of all classes. It was clearly proven that Hazel whipped the child unmercifully with a cowhide riding-whip, and then kicked the little ?-year-old innocent from room to room until she was dead. He held back all who attempted to interfere by presenting a revolver at them.
