Norway is currently enjoying a newfound level of popularity amongst tourists.
Spurred in part by the Frozen effect that has seen tourism rise sharply since Disneys 2013 film Frozen, which was developed with the support of Norways tourism agency, some officials began warning that the country was experiencing too much of a good thing.
Now a number of politicians are suggesting the implementation of a tourist tax to help local communities deal with the influx of visitors.
Local Nordland party leaders of the Socialist Left Party, the Christian Democrats, the Liberals and the Red Party have backed a new tourist tax to finance the upkeep needed as a result of the growing tourist numbers. [ ]
Spurring the call for a tourist tax is the method in which the Norwegian state transfers funds to local municipalities. My DNA test says I’m 47% Scandinavian, more than any other ethnicity, but I have no desire to go there. I’m also 2% North African and that’s a no also.
Most of this ‘new’ tourist flow...revolves around the cruise lines. I would take a guess that around thirty different cruise companies now operate along the coast of Norway, and there’s probably twenty vessels weekly which run along the coast. In some port cities, there’s at least 20,000 tourists coming off the ships each week.
Job-wise, it is a boom period for the port cities and tourist trade. All of this however, means more bus traffic, more wear and tear on streets and roads, and improving the ports themselves.

The muzzies that you allowed in your country will keep me away. The tax is stupid. Kick the muzzies out and you’ll have more money and won’t be thinking that you have to tax the non-Muzzies who visit your country.
