A couple that disappeared in the Alps 75 years ago has been found preserved in a receding glacier, ending decades of uncertainty for their seven children, Swiss media reported Tuesday.

The bodies were found lying near each other in the Diablerets massif in southern Switzerland, along with backpacks, a bottle, a book and a watch, according to Le Matin daily.

The head of the Glacier 3000 ski resort, Bernard Tschannen, told Le Matin that the bodies were found last Thursday.

“It was a man and a woman wearing clothes from the last (world) war”, Tschannen was quoted as saying. “The ice preserved them perfectly and their belongings were intact”.

That’s not possible. The glaciers have been receding for a century and a half.

Kind of funny, I read this story earlier today on the left leaning Yahoo news and the writer said the couple disappeared in 1942 before WWII. 1942? That would be right in the middle of the war for Europe. The comments were hilarious.

They took backpacks, a book and mess kits to go milk the cows?

This excerpt sounds like a couple of hikers who got unlucky. The CNN story raises more questions.

This is from http://metro.co.uk/2017/07/18/bodies-of-couple-who-went-missing-in-1942-found-perfectly-preserved-in-glacier-6789203/#ixzz4nKoW4ITD.

I wouldn’t consider an “excursion” at 2,615 meters as “milking cows” either.
The article says the husband was a shoemaker and the wife a teacher. The “milking cows” bit sounds like made-up fake news because writers and editors just assume what stereotypes and add fake news to their stories.

“Udry-Dumoulin continued: ‘It was the first time my mother went with him on such an excursion. She was always pregnant and couldn’t climb in the difficult conditions of the glacier.”

The surviving daughter, now age 79, remembers her father being happy and singing when she last saw him. So this is sort of like an alternate-reality version of the Von Trapp story.

I don't know, after a reasonable time, like say 50 years, I think it's fair to be certain they died.

Was that before or after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

I believe that it was right after the Italians fired on the Amish garrison at Fort Sumter.

In that era, I could see villagers having a few cows for personal use. Particularly with a house full of kids.
