Naming a road, building, ship, etc. after a living person is the stuff of a banana republic. It has no place in a democracy.

Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood would be a more fitting street for Obama

>> “It has no place in a democracy.” <<

Wrong!

Democracy has no place in a free nation.

We are a representative Republic. Democracy is the lowest form of governance on the freedom scale. It is the tyranny of the many over the few, and leads inexorably to revolution.

Bravo. Democracy, according to Aristotle, Politics, chapter 3, is the rule by the needy and bad. A Republic is rule by the virtuous and good. Thus, the Federalist Papers encourage Christian religion, ethical virtues and civics.

The Ventura freeway from the Glendale freeway to the Foothill freeway is about four miles. Few people driving the 28 freeways in LA know the names and less know the people honored on the freeways. Traffic reports always use the general names, such as Ventura, Glendale and Foothill freeways and never use the honored names, such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway (101) or the Frank Lanternman freeway (134). The honored names are empty gifts from empty politicians.
