Filipino Fisherman Returns Home After 63 Days Stranded at Sea
UNTV ^ | Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has awarded a new fishing boat to fisherman Gino Jorolan.

Jorolan is the fishermen from Davao Oriental who was stranded at sea for 63 days.

He said his boat could no longer carry the weight of his fish catch that it eventually capsized.

“I called for help but I was carried away by the strong current, until they could no longer see me,” Jorolan said.

Fish heads thrown by birds into his boat made him survive the sea for more than two months.

He said he even reached Indonesia.

“They just passed by me, but they never helped me,” Jorolan added.

When he reached the island of Palau, fishermen from the area immediately rescued him.

Jorolan arrived home on May 19 with the help of Palau President Tommy Remengesau.

I’ve been on the blue water a heck of a lot in my life. I have never once seen a generous bird. I would believe the story if he was skinnier and if that bird bit was left out.

Call me a skeptic if you will —

Surviving 63 days on fish heads seems improbable but I suppose it’s possible.

Surviving 63 days without fresh water falls well outside my bounds of reasonable possibility.

Rain is certainly a possible explanation. A stretch for sure, but possible nonetheless.

Read the book “lost at sea”. It’s quite a story of perseverance, and true.

It is fascinating.

From the article: "Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)"

I think I see why they didn't name this department the Bureau of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries. (BARF)
