Bill Cosby jury announces deadlock, judge orders deliberations continue

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - After 30 hours of deliberation in Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial, the jury announced late Thursday morning that they were deadlocked. The judge in the case told them to keep deliberating.

The sequestered jury has been deliberating since getting the case Monday, pausing a half-dozen times to revisit key evidence, including Cosby's decade-old admissions that he fondled Constand after giving her pills.

The 79-year-old star arrived at the courthouse Thursday morning for the start of yet another day of jury talks.

Judge Steven O'Neill has seemed vexed at times as the court staff struggled to answer the jury's requests. One batch of requested testimony hadn't even been transcribed yet.

When jurors asked to stop for the day Wednesday night, O'Neill was effusive with praise — encouraging their diligence as they weigh charges that could put the 79-year-old Cosby in prison for the rest of his life.

"This is an incredible jury that has just acted with incredible dignity and fidelity," O'Neill said. "I don't have any higher praise. You have taken your task so seriously."

Cosby is charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault. Each carries a maximum 10-year prison term, though the counts could be merged at sentencing if he is convicted.

The case has already helped demolish his nice-guy reputation as America's Dad.

The 79-year-old entertainer did not take the stand at his trial, but prosecutors used his deposition testimony -- given in 2005 and 2006 as part of Constand's civil suit against him -- as evidence.

Maybe they’ll acquit so that Cosby can go after the real rapist.

I wouldn't be surprised if the jury is divided along racial lines (there are two black jurors and 10 whites)

with the OJ fiasco we saw how blacks often decide cases by the race of the people involved.

If I am wrong I'll be the first to apologize.

I have a real problem with trying to nail an 80 year old for stuff like this from his youth. I just see it as a money grab.

I’m no fan of Cosby. But for me it is the principle, especially regarding “he said, she said” and from 40+ years ago.

All them jurors wanting to prove they aren’t racists will refuse to convict the black man.

Hung Jury X100.

In the ‘Good ol days’ a hung jury required a tree.

If you're wrong, you should be the only one to apologize. LOL

but, I'll bet you have no problem blaming 85 yro priests on he said/he said from 40 yrs ago....

you talk about "principle"...Principle would be to stand by your guns and get this creep to face justice, no matter what age...

How many Amish people are on the jury? It only takes one to cause a hung jury. Four or five of them would probably result in an acquittal. The white people on the jury probably think to themselves “I am sick and tired of dealing with these people. I will vote to acquit so that I can get out of here and get away from these people.”

I wonder if the defense had a juror on their side since they really didn’t put up much of a defense in court. Why expend the time and effort when you’ve already bought a hung jury, right?

The problem is determining events based only on he said/she said 40 years ago. Memory tends to shift & fade. Justice does not = convicting because its satisfying.

Certain member(s) of the jury refuse to believe that Dr. Huxtable could commit such a crime.

The racial makeup of the Jury may be the problem. If so, it should neutralize my thoughts here.

In this case, I would hope that a verdict could be obtained in a short period of time.

It has been a long time since these things supposedly took place. I don’t have a problem with them convicting him if there is clear cause to, but if it’s taking a week to do it, I begin to worry there is no clear cause to.

It would seem to me the longer this stretches out, the less clear cut it was.

Again, if we find ten White folks found him guilty, and two refused because he’s black, then there’s obviously another problem here.

I do want justice done in this case. He should be cleared or found guilty based on the evidence presented.

Any racial prejudice would be very unfortunate. For one, it would be unlawful.
