The Howling! Bulldog that LOVES horror movies barks to warn victims of impending doom

They say a dog is a man's best friend and this sentiment certainly rings true with this little fellow. It appears this canine will go to any lengths to warn potential victims, even if they are behind a screen. That's because Khaleesi the English bulldog, believed to be from the United States, is obsessed with watching television but doesn't realise actors can't hear her.

My dog never noticed the TV.

I think there is behind-the-scenes training and use of a dog whistle for cues.

My dog would watch TV but usually ignored it unless an animal appeared. In that event, she would bark and growl and go nuts.

There may well have been, but I had a friend whose dog would watch TV, when there were other dogs on!

That I find more believable. I have seen cats look at TV screens for several minutes at a time, but I got the impression they were attracted to the swirl of motion rather than actually “seeing” what was depicted.

Of course I could be wrong. But I am a bit skeptical of a lot of these kinds of claims.

Not talking about you (like I said, I find your claim more believable, especially if the onscreen dogs barked), but I think there is a huge tendency to anthropomorphize among pet owners.

Ditto for some people in movie theaters.

With the name Khaleesi, the owner must be a Game of Thrones fan. The dog must be barking constantly while watching it.

A friend of mine had a West Highland terrier that would watch Star Trek: Next Generation any time it came on, even if no one else was in the room. He’d hear the music, run in and sit up on the couch for the whole episode. When the credits rolled, he’d get up and leave.

My English Bulldog watches TV also. He barks at dogs and really any animal on the screen. He paricularly dislikes other dogs and monkeys/apes/baboons and crying human babies. I was watching a movie yesterday (Free State of Jones) that had alot of tracking dogs and he really went nuts.

We first saw this the day that we brought him home. I was in the living room on the floor with him when “102 Dalmatians” was on. When he saw the dogs on TV he tried to climb up the TV stand and get into the screen. It was the funniest thing. If he sees his picture on the screensaver of my wife’s Ipad he goes after it. Our other dog (English Mastiff) pays no attention to the TV except for barking if she hears a doorbell.

Join the club. We can’t watch anything that has animals in it. One of our Pugs hates horses and crying babies. He starts in and the other Pug, Chug and Beagle all join in. Life is good......noisy but good........lol

That has been my limited experience as well. I suppose there are dogs that do watch screens of various sorts but it certainly isn’t a universal trait.

Our cat liked to watch tv with us. She only reacted to it, though, if a baby cried. Then she ran over and put her front paws on the screen.

Mine bark at other animals. Also had a cat once that jumped at a bird on the screen. Then sat there licking his paws like he knew it wasn’t real.

I think that cats can distinguish what they see on a video screen.

I got one of those birdfeeders (The Yankee Flipper) that if a squirrel goes on it, it spins around and throws them off.

They give you a video disc (or used to) that you could watch, and my cat, who sits on my lap (and watches a movie with me occasionally without much other than fixing his eyes on the screen and watching intently) actually went up and started pawing the birds on the screen in the video (entertaining to watch, linked above) even going as far as to climb around on the television, looking down from top and sides. He apparently was trying to even figure out how to get inside the television, which showed images of birds feeding before the squirrel jumps on.

It isn't just the sound, though if I play bird songs, he does look intently at the speaker, but nothing like when the video was showing.

On the bummer side, while the feeder does keep the squirrels off, you don't get to enjoy them being thrown around. They seem to learn rather quickly, and after being tossed once or twice, they just don't go up. Even when the battery runs down, they won't go up. I felt kind of cheated, but...it does what it says!

My theory on this is that his eyes are on the front of his head and not off to the sides which allows for binocular vision which allows him to see the TV. I read that somewhere. It is really a pain in the butt to be honest. He sleeps in bed with the wife and me and if I fall asleep with the TV on he will wake us up with his growling and barking if something comes on he doesn’ like. He even barks at cartoons! He always barks at Brian on “Family Guy”.

No animal I’ve ever had has paid attention to the tv except for one cat who’d look at it occasionally when there were lots of flashing colors, i.e. if people were dancing with glittery neon costumes. It was the sparkly effect he was looking at rather than any recognition it was people.

If, that’s a big if, this video is real, then that poor dog must have terrible nightmares. What a scary world he lives in and shame on his people.

Ha ha, love the screaming squirrel! Though, Miss Kitty, who’s sitting right here on my desk couldn’t be bothered with it. She knows there’s plenty of birds, squirrels and other real live creatures in her yard.

Heh, I have to watch the video of the dog barking when I get home!

Cats are attracted to more than just motion.

I had a video tape of birds. The cat used to go behind the screen and paw at the back of the machine.

Just play pictures of birds or the sound of a cat purring and the cat will immediately respond.
