Trump Family Chooses Barron's New School: Soup's On

POTOMAC, MD — The Trump family has selected the new school for Barron Trump, according to recent reports. The 11-year-old will attend St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, about 15 miles from the White House.

St. Andrew's opened in 1978 with 40 students, grades seven to nine, in the basement of Pilgrim Lutheran Church on Massachusetts Avenue. Today, it has a total enrollment of 580 students in preschool through grade 12. The school operates on 12-week trimesters.

The school focuses on diversity, according to its website. “We value and respect all differences, including but not limited to age, ability, ethnicity, family structure, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status," it says. Less than half of the student population is white.

The Daily Caller reported that if Barron completes middle school at St. Andrew's, he will be required to participate in "service learning activities" in the eighth grade. These activities include a two-day field trip to a soup kitchen in Washington in which students make, serve and eat a meal with the homeless and listen to their life stories.

The school is quite expensive. For Barron's education up to high school, the price tag is $38,590 a year. When he begins high school, if he remains at St. Andrew's, the Trumps will pay the school $40,650 annually.

The St. Andrew's website reports that the student-to-teacher ratio is seven to one, and that class sizes range from 11 to 15 students. One-hundred percent of its graduates go on to attend college.

The Daily Caller reported the student body consists of 16 percent Episcopalians, 18 percent Roman Catholics, 10 percent Jews and 1 percent Muslims. Twenty-three percent of students are of other Protestant denominations, and 21 percent of students had either no religion or did not declare.

The St. Andrew's mascot is the Rampant Lion and its motto is Auctus Mentis Spiritusque, or the Increase of Mind and Spirit.

Notable alumni of the school are Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay; Joe Jacobi, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist in whitewater canoeing; and Whitney Cummings, an actress and comedian.

“Melania made the decision, and it was the wrong one.
She should have gotten her beautiful self and Barron to the WH on day one.”

I don’t think so.

My son and his wife made the same decision,2 years ago, as Melania and the president did and never regretted it. It was the best decision for the child.

Agree. But can you imagine the hoops his SS will have to go through. More than a few of the homeless will want to go through a search. Guaranteed the msm will be on hand to interview the one crazy who doesn’t want touched by SS so will go without a meal. Headlines, “Barron is causing the homeless to starve!”

Remember the outrage from parents when they learned one of the grandsons was going to be in their preschool. It was over the top with hate.

Husband and I volunteered at our Interfaith shelter to serve food (our Church volunteers as do others). I noticed all different folks from all walks of life. I saw Veterans, average Joe workers and of course the homeless. I sat and talked with some of the folks that were like me, average Joe. They fell on hard times, medical bills, sick child, one parent had to stay home, loss of that income, then main breadwinner lost his job, then car problems. He said it was humiliating to have to come here for food. He’d never taken a dime from the government and worked all his life.

So, it was an eye opener to me. Yes there are people who scam to get benefits but there are those that have never taken a dime until a life changing event causes a train wreck financially.

I still remember when some freepers were recommending this school over Sidwell’s.

Yes, they were.

Trump owns Mar-a-Lago so we’re not paying for that rental like we had to for Obama.

I wish freepers would leave this family alone for 5 minutes.

I agree. Even Trump's enemies in the media (NYT, WP) have not made this into an issue, and left her alone.

The school Trump & Melania chose has a 100% college rate. That impresses me.

Certainly, the nationwide Failure Factories that my tax money supports cannot even come close to that.

I don’t think helping out at a soup kitchen is going to turn the kid into a SJW. :-)

Yes from everything I have read Pres Trump is Presbyterian.

My Dad told me that a Presbyterian (like he was) is just somebody who can't afford to be an Episcopalian! Just a joke, as he could have afforded it.

The school seems oriented toward social justus bull crap.

I have mixed feelings about that. Back in the dark ages when I was young, our "public service" consisted mostly of not getting arrested. The world has changed. When you look at private schools, especially the expensive ones, you are looking at kids who have grown up in a bubble. Most of them have two parents at home. At least one parent, and usually both, are working. The family income is high enough to pay a stiff tuition. They live in attractive neighborhoods surrounded by people much like themselves. Getting them out of the bubble is worthwhile. It is up to the parents and the teachers to connect the dots and explain the myriad ways that people wreck their lives. You can have a public service requirement without buying into left-wing victimology theory. A small example: we live on Capitol Hill, so my older daughter and her friends always racked up service hours doing support activities for the March for Life.

You sound like a good and decent man, your wife sounds like she’s thoughtful, as well.

How sad that you two couldn’t keep your marriage intact.

I liked your post...take care.

Melania has done other things as first lady. The media never reports on it.

Good thing you disagree with that post as I’m sure it was sarcasm.
