"Forbidden Thoughts" is a conservative and libertarian science fiction anthology. What are the pros and cons of this book most notable for Milo Yianapolis writing the foreword?
I’ve never really understood gamergate. I read Vox Day’s book and still didn’t understand it.
Here’s the bottom line. Some women game developers were sleeping with men who would either subsequently review their games as journalists or act as judges in gaming competitions. Some of these these men were also discovered to have been paying $ to the female game developers they were sleeping with.
It was all about transperancy and ethics. Female developers shouldn’t have a major edge on male developers just because they were able to (clandestinely) dole out sexual favors.
Nor, I should have added, should female developers’ games receive artificiality high/positive reviews just because the journalists reviewing the games slept with the developer. Finally, women shouldn’t get an edge in competition for the same reason.
Oh. Ok; and somehow this is all tied up with female science fiction writers.
Well there’s the flip side of gamergate. After the women developers were accused of using an unfair advantage, feminists said this was nothing but standard issue misogyny on the part of male developers. This eventually led to charges of outsized amounts of political correctness being insinuated into various games.
Could that be the tie-in to women SF writers?
Gamergate summary:
* Gaming magazines hire a bunch of female reporters.
* Female gaming reporters write many articles about how gaming is sexist because most gamers are men, many female game characters have scanty outfits, it makes all the guys involved evil.
* Anita Sarkesian sleeps with a guy in the same industry, allegations of cheating, she writes hit pieces, discovered to be a liar on several points.
* Criticism of Sarkesian starts
* The cadre of feminist writers use this as proof all gaming is sexist, should be altered from characters to storylines.
* Unlike some industries (Captain America is now Hydra agent, Superman gives up American identity to remain a hero), gamers actually fought back culturally.
That’s a whole other issue, like the Sad Puppies slate.
Both problems are caused by the same thing, though, social justice warriors demanding that if you want to be published or get positive press, you have to be in line with them ideologically.
Social justice warriors in the scifi industry have:
* successfully applied SJW standards to several industry awards, so if you don’t match their political checklist, you have no chance of winning
* “diversity readers” are being adopted by many publishers where devout SJWs read the works and speak for their demographic group and say “this is offensive, rewrite or we’ll reject”
* conservative writers male and female are being dis-invited from conventions and harassed online without penalty by those doing so
* liberal hate mobs often respond to a scifi author’s conservative statement in an interview or blog by organized downvoting campaigns for reviews, hurting sales indirectly and killing your SEO
I had read about the diversity readers. It’s more widespread, apparently, than I realized. A sad state of affairs.
Brandon Sanderson is hated by the left but he does amazingly well in sci-fi/fantasy.
I don’t believe this is legit. Maybe a few isolated cases but probably not very widespread.
Now my eyes are glazing over. Gaming and Scifi are my least favorite subjects but I appreciate the update.

A young lady at my dentist’s office inquired what book I was reading in the waiting room. I told her it was Roman history. I asked what she was reading and surprising to me she said Science Fiction. I asked what and she said it was future militarist history written with many women characters in combat and action roles. I told her I had read a lot of SciFi three decades ago but not much since.
I did check out a David Weber series and it was not terribly written and darn near conservative in values.
I heard about this thing, nice review but unfortunately she doesn’t attribute all the little story review blurbs to the conservative/libertarian that wrote them. Anyhow it’s got John C. Wright, he is a great writer.

I recall a scene from Xena the Warrior Princess wherein some blonde model with near zero muscle mass is depicted as wrestling with some really bulked up horrible looking dude. Of course, she prevails in this depiction, but the giveaway is that her triceps, such as they are, are hanging flaccid the whole time. Seared in my memory. A perfect metaphor for the gigantic ruse of female equality, extended these days of course to female SUPERIORITY.
This author does not loose a sensible understanding of the genders.
Women don’t have unfair competition. Male developers could sleep with the journalists as well.
Hehe. There’s an angle I haven’t heard anyone raise. It would work best if the average male developer is Mr Hunk...but the odds are slim.
