As chief bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding, Claire Duke knew a certain amount of responsibility and planning would fall to her.

What she didn’t imagine was that it would cost her so much money to attend the lavish ceremony that her debt would last longer than her friend’s marriage.

Claire’s friend, Siobhan, chose a Caribbean beach setting for her big day four years ago. Claire, 33, a chef from the Isle of Man, says: ‘They wanted us to be there no matter what.’

“...picked the wrong bride...”

hehehehe!!! True! Sadly in the wealthier suburbs and cities good luck to the man trying to find one who hasn’t been brainwashed to be a bridezilla - they are out there (our daughters and others like them) but many of their peers are sucked into the Kardashian circus this big league.

This is what happens when weddings are about being a Disney Princess for a day instead of making a commitment before God and the community.

Exactly right.

It looks like the wedding dress got blown away and all that’s left is the undergarments.

“In my daughter’s case, I gave her a check. I told her “Use this money on your wedding, on your honeymoon, as a down payment on your house, however you see fit”. Suddenly, then, once it became HER money she would be spending, she became very energetic in figuring out how to have a nice wedding without spending a ridiculous amount. “

You, sir, are completely brilliant. I have two daughters and I am taking notes.

“How much were the father’s shotgun shells?”

Come now! You don’t count the cost of those unless he has to shoot.

‘They wanted us to be there no matter what.’

And here I scheduled my wedding at a time when I knew my parents were already planing to be in country so they did not have to buy another pair of tickets.

If someone wants you to go on a expensive trip and you don't have the money tell them they can either pay for it or you are not able to go.

The word "No" seems not to be taught these days.

It is a valid and useful word.

‘Then there’s the cost of buying a new outfit to fit the black-tie dress code — in my circle, you can’t really be seen in the same dress twice

Ha! She thinks she's a movie star. Here's a clue: Movie stars don't actually pay for the clothes they wear.
