Lets see; first parents should actually be in a position to trust the teacher... Yes,the teacher should be fired
unethical behavior
If by "unethical" you mean immoral (at least on her part) I'd say yes
emotional and mental impact that you feel entitled to ignore,
Not ignoring because in at least some scenarios it wouldn't happen (to a 17 year old boy at least)
illegal in Texas
Are there any laws on the books in Texas that you feel are unwise or even unjust?
there is no double-standards under the law
Boys and girls are different and yet those laws don't accommodate those differences
broken contract (If divorce happens)
That's a problem for the divorce courts, not the criminal courts
potential STDs on both sides
I've already mentioned disease
authority figure in a position to provide alcohol to student etc...
I already mentioned threats and coercion...and I saw no mention of alcohol.Providing alcohol to a minor in *any* situation is a serious matter. If *this* case involved alcohol I missed it.

That doesnt look like it’s a mugshot. No height marks in the background, no suspect info.

Now I don't have time so will be short.
Yes,the teacher should be fired
Fired and made an example. The law is the law and as an authority figure of the State she should understand the consequences of breaking the law. As a parent and tax payer the punishment should be harsh in this situation. People might think twice, become less likely to pursue this.
If by "unethical" you mean immoral (at least on her part) I'd say yes
Unethical behavior concerning her occupation, morality has nothing to do with what she was arrested for.
Are there any laws on the books in Texas that you feel are unwise or even unjust?
Texas mores are not your mores, if you live in Texas lobby for an appeal, knowing Texas you will not get very far with that. Also not an argument.
Boys and girls are different and yet those laws don't accommodate those differences
Again this is a teacher - student situation. Gender has nothing to due with the legal circumstances
That's a problem for the divorce courts, not the criminal courts
True, however you believe this was a victimless act by projecting through the eyes of the 17 year old, just sex right? Hope this slut did not reproduce. I am sure the husband is loving all of this.
I already mentioned threats and coercion...and I saw no mention of alcohol. Providing alcohol to a minor in *any* situation is a serious matter. If *this* case involved alcohol I missed it.
Time will tell if alcohol was involved. The point is the nature of the relationship, which the law seeks to prevent, avoids this opportunity all together. You are banging, good chance you are boozing, especially if ice needs to be broken and "loosened up". Nothing yet though. Also avoided any type of psychological impact, again as an authority figure, she was basically instilling a lack of self-control into the student.

It’s an age old double standard
It’s just how it is and we’ve even gotten crazier about it
Even as unmarried girls have gotten probably 75% promiscuous
It’s ridiculous

Btw
Up until recently 27 and 17 was legal
And still is in plenty places
She breached her teacher duties yes
But criminality beyond that not in my opinion

With a name like “Fowlkes”, you can be sure her students have a special name for her!

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Bottom line is that I can see at least one basic scenario where a 17 year old *boy* wouldn't suffer serious, long term psychological harm in a situation like this and you can't.
Was this an unfortunate event from the standpoint of the boy's upbringing, his maturation process, his well being? By the standards under which *I* was raised, and raised my sons,I'd say probably. Will he suffer long tern harm? Not necessarily.
Should the teacher be fired? Absolutely.Should she be criminally prosecuted? Not necessarily.
If this had been a 17 year old girl with a 27 year old of *either* gender or in *any* occupation should the adult be in the slammer? You betcha!
Because 17 year old boys and girls are wired differently.*Much* differently.

"Actually, a lot of states have laws that criminalize sexual contact between teachers and students, caregivers and their charges, etc. Even if the student isnt a minor or is above the age of consent" Yeh, agree and am aware of that. Don't know about Texas and am too lazy to research 😏...

Again there is no double standard concerning the law. As for females, plenty have f’ed for grades so the manipulation happened on both sides.
