Robert James Waller, the author of best-selling book The Bridges of Madison County, has died in Texas at the age of 77, his agency said.
Waller published seven books, but Bridges was his most famous, selling 12 million copies in 35 languages.
The romantic novel was adapted into a 1995 film starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, who was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar in the role.

Clint, Clint,
Did you need the money that badly back then? I would have floated you a few bucks to save working with Streep.
I like Clint. I would have helped save him from this fate.
Not a big movie person but that was a decent movie. IMO.
Streep is a douche bag and would gain more respect if she stuck to acting like so many others in her field
I was so enthusiastic to read the book and it started off so well with lots of intrigue..
but essentially as the book wore on, it was basically a book about an adulterer....she played the poor martyr of this loving husband and her loving children..yet she seemed to have no real regard for them, nor love them deeply...
she basically just jumped on the first available man coming thru...
no thanks....

So was all that in the 1st or 2nd chapter?
Never saw the movie of course. But Meryl Streep was the show-stopper there. She creeps me out bigly. Honestly, she was Kaitlyn Jenner before Kaitlyn was cool.
Schmaltzy crap. Could never understand how women loved the whole adultery story. If the roles were reversed, they would be in an uproar.
“The English Patient” was the same. Oh, let us all swoon over the romance of the Englishwoman cheating on her decent husband.
Bought the soundtrack. If you like jazz, check it out.
I liked when Clint Eastwood said to Clyde “Right turn” and the orangutan slapped Meryl Streep.
She was incredibly convincing as the bridge,
Wasn’t that a chick flick?
It took more time to view the movie then to read the trifling book.
Somebody needed to take a scissor to the movie and the book.
I remember going to see this movie and I was constantly trying to check my watch for the time because it was so boring.
That wasn't Meryl Streep...
...it just looked like her.
I seriously had a hard time watching an elderly Clint Eastwood, who I love as an actor, trying to play a 52 year old. And Meryl Streep was awful. I kept hearing her say "Out of Africa..." There were so many more attractive actresses to play her role.
My recollection of the Bridges of Madison County movie is better : )
Clint Eastwood was believable.
RIP.
