A few years ago, Susan Aikens was running a small wilderness camp in a remote part of Alaska when she was discovered by BBC producers who were interested in turning her life into a reality series. Aikens agreed, and is now well known throughout the state as the star of Life Below Zero, which airs on the National Geographic Channel. But Aikens is now engaged in a high-profile lawsuit against the producers, accusing them of contriving scenes to heighten the drama and putting her life at risk. In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Alaska, Aikens alleges that a producer on the show forced her to drive her snow machine across an icy river at 60 mph. She crashed and was thrown from the vehicle. While she lay in the snow suffering from serious injuries, Aikens claims the BBC crew delayed her rescue in order to get more footage.

She’s one tough lady!
I like that show, and I remember when she had that spill. But no way was she going 60 mph.
There are no reality shows. Scripted garbage.
They were ‘cute’ for a year or so. The went off the rails, long ago.
As Rush Limbaugh puts it, reality TV is just scripted TV with non-union writers.
Pay the Lady!
I knew that the scene was contrived as soon as I saw it. That said she is a little off plumb to start with.
Sorry Sue, you made the wrong choice.
A court in it’s right mind would tell you go back to your camp. She had a choice to perform that stunt and she chose unwisely, knowing full well the consequences of her actions.
But in this day the court will say that the production company is at fault and she’ll receive a nice pay-out for her stupid actions.
producer on the show forced her to drive her snow machine across an icy river, really ?
What?! Her snow machine did not have a sticker which clearly stated, “Do not attempt to drive at high speed across icy streams”? If you live in the Arctic, you need guns and lawyers.
I’m with you. I watch this show for the life hacks in the wilderness. Sue always talks about how rough life up on the top of the world is...that you have to be careful all the time....then she does something really stupid, gets hurt and wants to be paid? Sorry sister.
We like that show. My favorite is Glen Villeneuve. He really has it together
.
I remember Sue from another show about a local mini-airline .
Her site was an emergency strip for the oil drilling companies.
My how its grown.
Apparently she has a hunting camp among other things. Obviously make pretty good money as she accumulates lots of top dollar equipment and ‘toys ‘.
She is a tough lady.
How does one "force" you to do something like this?
Not to say who would have thought it...but...who would have thought it?
Twisted your arm, did they?
I can't be in the room when my wife watches this show...that droning, smarmy, condescending "self-questioning" dip shit puts me to sleep.
"Do I want to have seal for supper?"
"Well, there ain't no seal here, so I'll open a can of Alpo."
"Gotta do what you gotta do."
Ack!
I'd be ticked off too, and I'd darn sure sue for that.
Why would she agree to do such things?
Oh yeah money and fame. Maybe now she will think before doing
Precisely
Face plant.
The one that always has me shouting at the screen is when the gold show guys get bent out of shape coming up dry after moving 20,000 cubic yards of material when they could have spent 5-10 grand on a drill rig and checked it at depth first...
