260 American sailors were killed or drowned.

I suspect that the sailors did not appreciate the difference.

Humor? aside, thanks for the history reminder.

...and the then fake news empire of William Randolph Hearst used the event to get the U.S. into the Spanish American War because it would help sell papers. War is good for business.

Nothing changes. Now the MSM, CIA, globalists want war with Russia.

It should be noted that when congress appropriated the money to raise the Maine, recover the human remains within, and sink it at sea, it was done with unprecedented, for the time, levels of secrecy.

The reason was simple, even at the time the US was very sensitive to the fact that it had gone to war over the sinking of the ship. And were it to be known that it was due to an accident instead of a naval mine, it would have been intensely embarrassing internationally.

At a time when the major naval powers were building battleships at a great clip in the run up to World War I.

This sinking also launched a three year conventional/guerilla war on Luzon in the Philippines after Dewey’s resounding victory in Manila bay. Then after that was another 10 year war in Mindanao against the Moros (modern day Abu Sayef’s ancestors) to suppress them. Lots of lives lost on both sides in wars that are rarely ever talked about.

Trump should shoot down some Russian jets and move nukes right up to their border-basically take us to defcon 1 and leave us there for a while. It would be highly entertaining to see how fast the left changed their mind about Russia.

“...and the then fake news empire of William Randolph Hearst “

Is this the same outfit that fake-newsed the Rough Rider charge up San Juan Hill that eventually got progressive Teddy Roosevelt into the WH?

For those unaware, the charge up San Juan Hill was first made safe by Buffalo Soldiers actually taking it first. Also, TR was a failed Progressive Party prez candidate that later hooked up with the GOP to win. This sorta crap has been going on since the first printed matter came off the Gutenburg.

In my family we talk about those conflicts. The sinking of the Maine started a series of events that eventually allowed me to marry a pen pal from Mindanao in 1985, and we’re still together now.

Roosevelt was a life-long Republican and became president years before his run on the Progressive Party ticket. As for San Juan Hill, it’s true that the 10th Cavalry advanced first, but Roosevelt’s volunteeers moved second, followed by Pershing’s unit and the rest of the division. Hardly “fake news.”

That’s awesome. I’ve only been on Luzon and sailed through the San Bernardino straits and seen all of those Visyan islands. I’ve never been to Mindanao but I’ve heard it’s beautiful.

Nonetheless, he was a lib somewhat on the order of Bush only the press made him famous similar to obama.

He was progressive, he gave us the Antiquities Act & he let the fake news of San Juan Hill propel him to fame, eventually receiving a fake Medal Of Honor by fellow progressive Bill Clinton.

I’d be in favor of basting his face off Mt Rushmore & replacing it with Ronnie’s.

Love him or hate him, but get the facts straight. He was famous LONG before the Spanish American War. He had been a New York City Police Commissioner, ran for mayor there, and been the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for crying out loud! And he DID charge up San Juan Hill, whether you like it or not!

Back in the 1980s Mindanao was safe for Americans to visit. Alas, that is no longer the case, because the Moros (Philippine Moslems) came under the influence of outside terrorist movements like Al Qaeda and ISIS, so they have expanded their rebellion against the Manila government to include Americans.

I concede. Yes, there are many military heroes that were life long Republicans, military heroes that served our nation in higher offices.

John McCain comes to mind. His heroism earned him a statue in Hanoi. And Lindsey Graham. With their press coverage, the history books will certainly paint them as patriots, where a hundred years from now people will be defending them tooth & nail.

Quoting Napoleon: “History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.”

Yet, when the heir to the THRONE of Austria is assassinated and Austro-Hungarian Empire w/their allies declare war on Serbia (the assassin was a Serb) the world community condemns them.

And the world has been screwed ever since!!
