Growing evidence of a link between football hits and brain injuries has led all 50 states to pass laws aimed at protecting young people from concussions, but a New York lawmaker wants to go even further — banning tackle football.
"Football is the only major sport where on every single play, the objective is to violently hit the competition," said Assemblyman Michael Benedetto, whose measure would bar youth football leagues from allowing anyone 13 or younger to tackle.
And while his bill has gained little support since the Bronx Democrat first introduced it four years ago, with some legislative colleagues bashing it as government overreach, experts say the times may be changing.

They want to kill football. Teach fundamentals again and the risk of injury goes way down. The professional teams are a lost cause. Especially when it comes to black on white violence.
I think you’ve hit on something important here. Proper tackling — using leverage to topple the ball carrier — has just about disappeared.
The issue of black on white violence in the pros is the NFL’s dirty secret. White players are discriminated against across the board.
For example, scientific studies supposedly prove that blacks have some sort of genetic advantage in straight ahead speed. Yet other studies show that whites have an advantage in hand-eye coordination.
Now, combine the two and you might get the idea that whites and blacks ought to be equally adept at playing wide receiver, since it involves a lot more than speed. The ability to look the ball into your hands is crucial.
But NFL coaches follow the herd, and the herd says that blacks are more athletically gifted than whites.
Personally, I think it takes a lot of a qualities to make a fine ball player — and the biggest one of all is the one hardest to measure:
Discipline.

My father was a pediatrician, and treated plenty of sports injuries. The only sport he forbade his three sons to play was football. So what happened? You guessed it — pickup tackle football without pads or helmets mostly. Some bloody noses and lots of bruises, but the worst injury I remember was a broken collarbone (some other kid, not me or my brothers). Boys are going to play tackle football, on an organized team with proper gear and coaching, or not.
The problems with football are the feet and the balls.
And while you are at it, prohibit keeping score. We don’t any future snowflakes to have their self esteem bruised!

Young man at our high school suffered brain damage from multiple concussions. 17 yrs old. Not worth it.
Apply this to boxing. “FLAG” boxing. Instead of punching the guy, you grab a flag. An uppercut flag, a hook flag, (one for left and one for right of course), a knockout flag, etc.
This would eliminate concussions altogether! They might get tarpal tunnel syndrome from all the flag grabbing, but heh.
Each side will take turns where one side has the ball and they choose a carrier who will race a person from the other side until the ball carrier either gets the full 100 yards and scores, or the opposing runner pulls in front, at which point the ball is down and the teams change ball carrier and opposing runner.
if the team with the ball doesn't score in three tries, the other team starts at the point where the ball was last down and races in the other direction.
Why not just put the entire NFL “culture” (fans, players, owners, sponsors) on the Santa Clarita Diet - and let them have at it?
