Should the government stop funding NPR?
Debate.org ^

Posted on 12/30/2016 5:31:44 AM PST by nikos1121

Public television and radio stations like PBS and NPR got $445 million from the government in 2012—or about 0.014 percent of the federal budget. I don't understand why the American taxpayer should subsidize any television or radio stations.

$445, in my opinion, is a lot of money. A lot of money. NPR is another very liberal outlet.

I say defund NPR. What say you?

Absolutely defund NPR. It was the only station (via the college towns, Ithaca, etc,) I could pick up on a recent trip out in rural New York State. The propaganda announced in robotic tones was beyond horrible.

Just defund it - don’t try to make it conservative because that goes against our conservative principles anyway; the principles of not using government funding for things that it has no business funding.

Radio needs to be in a capitalist competitive market driven environment just like the arts, etc.

The rule in DC is: If it is leftist, it gets public funding. The RINOs always fold.

Imagine if the NRA, which actually supports a Constitutional Amendment, got public funding...

No. Because they don’t even make the slightest feeble attempt to maintain balance.

Donate NPR to the UN.
Then, export both to France.

Seek took me to NPR the other day while visiting relatives.

There was a snowflake on smug and smarmy listing various ways Trumps agenda could be blocked.

NPR needs no tax payer dollars.

They can survive or die based on their content, the likely outcome of which is well known.

I will give them credit for one thing though, back in 2001, by pure happenstance they turned me on to Robert Earl Keen’s Gravitational Forces album.

Great album that remains dust free.

“Not a Drop of Rain”
“High Planes Jamboree”

...are particularly good tracks

NPR and PBS can just go fund themselves.

Gee! A 0.014% here and a 0.014% there and pretty soon we're talking about real money.

In my city there must be a half dozen NPR stations. It seems every college and university has one. ...And....We know where the money comes to support those universities. Our taxpayer pocket!

Even if the federal government does get out of NPR these communist stations will still get plenty of state support.

Defunding them on the federal level is definitely a good idea.

How do we get them off the university campuses.

Interesting. I have a friend who works for NPR radio in Baltimore. He’s been bragging that he makes a fortune there. And he works part-time.

NPR is like an IV bag for leftists.

Just mention removing tax based support and they go insane.

They’ll go so far as to claim it’s not biased and contributes greatly to the country.

They’ll claim it’s the only balanced news service in the country.

I have heard it all about NPR from leftists. Its a drug.

No. It’s leftist propaganda. Let the left pay for their own media.

NPR has a complex structure that includes state public broadcasting with top salaries over $500k per year. Also, many NPR productions are privately owned and make millions of dollars per year. It’s a giant tax-exempt scam.

National People’s Revolutionary Radio aka NPR needs to be shut down.

Add to that People’s Revolutionary Broadcasting (PBS) needs to go as well.
