‘Die Hard’ Isn’t Your Typical Christmas Movie, But It’s The Best

McClane just arrived from New York to spend Christmas with his estranged wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) in Los Angeles. As he waits for her office Christmas party to break up, terrorists take over the building. The late Alan Rickman is superb as the terrorist leader Hans Gruber.
Billed as 40 Stories Of Sheer Adventure, the film does not disappoint. There’s plenty of action, along with humor and warm, fuzzy moments too.

I like Die Hard a lot, but I would never rate it as “the best” Christmas movie.

Great movie. Love the opening where McClane is driven from the airport in a limo to the tune of Run-DMC’s “Christmas in Hollis”.

Agreed! And that smarmy dirtball, (that tried to broker a deal with Hans and John McClain over the walkie-talkie), was as scuzzy a toad as could be! I always like the part where he gets plugged by Hans!

Oh, not that
fried bologna sandwich again!
My definition of a real Christmas movie would be something like various productions of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol or Miracle on 34th Street. The original Die Hard is essentially an action movie set around a terrorist invasion of a Christmas party.

Yes was thinking about that one right off. I even liked the one with George C. Scott but that one is the best of that story.

Yeah, Alan Rickman was good in that role as Hans Gruber.
Another favorite bad guy of mine is Agent Smith in The Matrix played by Hugo Weaving. He’s the main reason I go back once in a while to watch it.
