On the whole, they’re reasonably intelligent, productive people. But, they fell for Nazism and now they’re falling for this.

Was just thinking the same thing. Out for dinner with the wife or girlfriend? Or the gals out for a night without the boys (as is their right)? If a mob forms outside, palm a nice steak knife and don't be shy about using it in a close contact situation. Try not to nick anything arterial, however. Nothing like drawing attention to yourself by getting covered in Jihadi blood, spurting everywhere from a slit carotid artery. Very much so. Because it is so distant in the past, it becomes much easier to be objective about what happened. The Russians took the brunt of the German Assault. Without their sacrifice of 20 million lives, Germany would have won the war.
I grew up believing that the US won the war because the history lessons I was taught played up the US role in the conflict, but when you look at the real story, you realize the US only saw a tiny piece of the fighting (In Europe) that went on in WWII.
I am not disparaging American effort and sacrifice, I am merely pointing out that the Russians took most of the fight out of the Germans before we ever got into the conflict in any significant manner.
There should be emergency bacon boxes in public areas.
