Vanity - Remember, remember the Freep of November (2000)
Vanity | Vanity-FateAmenableToChange

I'm nostalgic today for the first time I realized that FreeRepublic and JimRob represent a real political force. Had to drive regularly past the vice-presidential mansion after the November 2000 election, wondered the first time what all those people were doing standing on the sidewalk outside. The next time, they were still there. And a week after that.

Chanting. Shouting.

"Get out! Get out! Get out of Cheney's house!"

Couldn't stop or help because of work but always honked for you awesome few.

Now I'm just anxious and want to join everyone there tomorrow until January 20, "get out! get out! Get out of Pence's house!" Not the urgency of 2000 since we're not hanging, but it would feel really good.

Good memories. I remember seeing that on Fox News.

I was there, wielding my cheap Radio Shack bullhorn.

I remember asking the paid union leftists across the road how they got their signs to match so perfectly. And of course, helping power the immortal "Get out of Cheney's house" chant.

We ticked off Gore so thoroughly that he was still whining about it years later. Great times.

I was on the other side of the country at that time. After Algore decided to contest the election, there were a couple of FReeper marches in San Francisco. We stood outside the offices of one of the liberal news/talk stations chanting "KSFO, KSFO, ..." The police who carved out a lane for us and directed traffic as we went said it was the first time they had ever seen Republicans demonstrating. It was also the first time they had heard demonstrators cheering the police.

"I was on the other side of the country at that time."

And I was in the northeast - big Freep at Times Square in NYC, and a feisty Saturday at Lieberman's house in New Haven.

Remember the "Sore-Loserman" stickers? What a hoot!

Our group made the front page of the Houston paper, including a pic of my wife as we picketed the Harris County Democrat HQ during the Sore Loserman recount. Good times...
