VANITY: Ten ways that Trump's 2016 win is better than Reagan's 1980 win
1. Mike Pence is a SERIOUS upgrade over George H. W. Bush.
2. Trump didn't make a promise to appoint the first female justice.
3. We still have our RINOs, but our RINOs (McConnell, Ryan, etc.) would look like firebrand conservatives in 1980 (Weicker, Packwood, Percy)
4. Trump has majorities in both legislative chambers, Reagan NEVER had the House.
5. Few Gypsy Moth Republicans to have to work with, and the boll weevil Democrats have been replaced with Republicans that caucus with us.
6. No one takes the major networks and news services as unbiased journalists any more, and alternative sources of information, and making you voice heard now exist.
7. The most recent major political scandals are all on the Dems this time.
8. One SCOTUS pick out of the gate, with likely retirees/deaths forming a line as long as the express checkout at the Publix/Stop & Shop/Safeway.
9. Melania doesn't seem to have any interest in Astrology, and Donald pleases her on his terms. She's good with it.
10. Trump's biggest opponents have decided to withdraw (Bushes, Romneys) rather than to wait things out to ambush at the right time, making a long-term realignment easier.

Feel free to add more! If you want to make a list for what was better in 1980, that's the subject for another thread.

11. The Trump kids are not the headaches that the Reagan kids were.

I’m really curious to see Iran’s reaction post Jan. 20 or even before. They were smart enough to let the hostages go when Dutch took office in 1981. I wonder if they’ll double down on stupid or will back off now knowing that there’s a serious executive in charge again.

I agree with all but #10. The Bushes are probably scheming right now on ways to weaken the Trump presidency.

This would be a good time to launch the Trump Network and put Hannity in charge of it (or the Breitbart guy) (or Rightside)

It only has to be better in 1980, when George the Elder won primaries, stayed in the primaries near the end (with less money than Reagan , which is why Reagan paid for the microphone). The current family, up to and including George the Elder himself (but excluding George P.) either voted for HRC or left the ballot blank. That is a bad strategy for maintaining credibility as a public spokesman. Whatever work they do will have to be behind the scenes. They have no way to rebuild the brand, which is utterly razed.

I had not thought much of Sean's show, but I have to give him credit for standing by his principles, regardless of what else was going on at Fox, reading the election right, and maintaining focus that helped win the election. He has my respect and admiration, even if I still don't like his show so much.

I am going to be curious to see if there are any conflicts of interest between Trump’s businesses and being POTUS.

Though I’ve gotta say....I’m old enough to remember it, and Reagan’s win was PRETTY DAMNED GREAT!!

I really like #1 the best. We could be set for 16 years rather than 12. It’s up to Trump serving successfully for 8 years-or MAYBE 6?

Good list. Also reagan did not really see tbe left as the threat it is. It had not unmasked itself as much in 1980.

-Fingers crossed. He was a supported choice by the establishment.

Agreed. Reagan was like Sully landing the plane on the Hudson, proving the theoretical in actual application. We all stand on the shoulders of giants, and Reagan provided shoulders for all future anti-leftists and patriots.

Yeah, as their 14th choice after Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, John Kasich, and so on into Ted Cruz and Rand Paul territory. Not perfect, but a very, very good track record. Certainly a YUUGE upgrade over 1980's George Herbert Walker Bush.

I think his time running the Screen Actors' Guild and as a temp[orary unwitting dupe of a Communist front organization in Hollywood early on gave him a good look at it. That experience also taught him when to be discreet and cordial, without forgetting what the enemy is capable of.

Trump won’t be hoodwinked on immigration like Reagan was — simply because now we all know the game there because of it.

Yes. Ditto on Tax Reform Act of 1986 which helped lead to the Savings & Loan crisis among other things, and didn't look at all like what Reagan wanted when he was originally on board.
