Hope some freepers can hopefully lend a hand. I am trying to find the best source for gun ownership by state. Is there a reputable source for this that someone can reccomend? Thanks.
That said, an internet search will probably provide everything you need for free updated in real time as laws change.
Very hard to get any accurate information.
Would you tell anyone that you own any or how many you own? Most people will not tell a stranger or someone “collecting”
information.
NICS checks, hunting license’s, etc. have been used but obviously have no accuracy as far as how many guns or gun owners there are.
Many articles regularly cite 300 million as the number of firearms in the United States, I believe that number is no where near the actual. I would say closer to a billion.
In Missouri one time they cited the number of hunting licenses or deer tags sold in regard to gun owners. That year out of the 30-40 gun owners I personally know not one of them got a dear tag.
I lost all of my firearms in a tragic boating accident so I can’t help you.

However, I think the FBI NICS checks are tabulated by state. Hang on, my Google-fu should be able to find that...

I wouldn’t be surprised if your 1B estimate is low. How many recorded sales has there been in the past 8 years? I’m thinking over the past 4 years each year was record breaker and right now there is a renewed buying frenzy. When Trump wins there just might be some bargains to be had.
The best estimate I have seen was based on 1982 figures, 1996 figures and the projection based on the commerce figures between those two dates, which were readily available form the ATF.
That figure was 357 to 368 million arms, for a ownership rate of between 1.22 and 1.15 arms were person in the US of A. That includes small arms held by the governments, presumed to be held (old stocks that no record exists for the destruction of) and armed services, which were in the multiple millions (9~12 million is my recollection, but I cannot be sure on that.)
As for state by state data, I do not believe I have ever seen a good estimate, but here is a start:
By region:
Here are some reports, but they do not break out if it is per capita, by household, or as percentage of adults. Notice some of the reports vary a bit form state to state:
Some of the data above is questionable. I have seen other states that show Hawaii having only 9.7 % ownership and New York much higher than 10.3%
Hillary is that you?
James Yeager say they will come and torture you
you or anyone to find guns. I suppose it is a pitch to join his training and be ready to fight them, but he has a point.
I recommend reading the works of Matthew Bracken. His books are virtual instruction manuals on how to prepare for and deal with people like you mentioned.
Don’t ask me. I’ll lie.
Thanks. Anything from the ATF is going to be more reliable than the other questionable stuff I’ve found online
Keep in mind that those are only the number of weapons registered with ATF. But there are some other interesting stats showing gun sales and licensed dealers in the various states.
But here is a good source of information if you ever find yourself needing ammunition in a battle with a gun-grabber:
I agree that one billion is probably low.
