What we have here is the end of an era. One of the few remaining famed original horror movie hosts, John Zacherle, known affectionately to fans as Zacherley, The Cool Ghoul, has passed on at the age of 98! That's quite a run and we're all a lot creepier as a result of his illustrious career!
Zacherley was an American television host, radio personality and voice actor known for his long career as a television horror host broadcasting horror movies in Philadelphia and New York City in the 1950s and 1960s. Best known for his character "Roland/Zacherley," he also did voice work for movies, and recorded the top ten novelty rock and roll song "Dinner With Drac" in 1958. He also edited two collections of horror stories, Zacherley's Vulture Stew and Zacherley's Midnight Snacks.

Yes RIP Zackerley you were so much fun to watch. How many remember him singing “Way down upon the Dirty Danube far far away?”
RIP to the Cool Ghoul.
Count Gore De Vol is still around:
He hosted “Creature Feature” on DC Channel 20 for years when I was young.
Saw him many times at the Chiller convention, he was there meeting fans every year until last. A very very kind and gentle man, he would perform The Monster Mash at an evening concert.
Maybe not fully related but since my grandparents lived within viewing range of WSTM NBC Syracuse, my parents recall watching on that channel the “Monster Movie Matinee” with Dr Witty and later Count Floyd as hosts back in the 1970s and early 1980s. Does anyone here remember Elvira?
OMG, how long since I last heard that name!
When I was a little girl my aunts used to let me stay up and watch Zackerley when they babysat. Gee, same age as my mom.
RIP
(But Charlie Baxter as MT Graves in “The Dungeon”, [60s Miami] was much creepier and funnier.)
Remember listening to him on WNEW FM back in the day...
Anyone remember “Tales From The Tomb, With My Friend Igor...”, back in the late 50s?
If you think about it, he in effect pioneered the MST3000 format. Man, that’s so long ago.
Hmmm ... that explains a lot.

I remember his show well. What a treat it was staying up late watching him intro a horror flick. He was one of a kind whose humor would be lost on todays kids.
This was back when NBC had some class.
Gasport & Isobel will live on...
Tonight Turner Classic ends its Halloween horror Fridays with a lineup of the best of Universal’s horror flix. I so remember Zach hosting them on WABC 7 & WOR 9 in NYC when I was a kid. RIP Zach.
