A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.

“Do trees have brains and talk to each other?........”

They have fairies livin’ in ‘em.

Call any vegetable
And the chances are good...
That the vegetable will respond to you.

Well, I did get a reaction from a friend of mine for saying that trees were VIOLENT. Growing tall is an act of violence, in that it subjugates the shorter vegetation, you see. Plain fact. No mind or intention involved. He wasn’t buying, choosing to see the tallness of the trees in purely circumstantial terms. Nevertheless, it is a a selected trait.

A spruce tree was admiring my guitar today and,
it told me that it would like to be one.

That’s why I am not a vegetarian. I kill my meat before eating it. The thought of biting into a tomato and hearing it scream as I chomp down on it is too hard to take.
Vegetarians are violent, murderous thugs.

Underground, it’s chemical warfare. Trees battle each other for root space with secretions that keep one another at bay, and keep intruders from gaining any foothold in their territory.

The thought of trees cut down for wood,
Serving man as nature should,
Literate mankind now confesses:
"Cut the trees and start the presses!"

One possible answer existed. The other beeches around the stump had been pumping sugar into it for centuries to keep it alive, through their tangled roots.

More likely the stump was a vampire beech sucking the life out of the surrounding live beech trees. Even though the surrounding trees longed for it to die off completely it would not.

I read the article. Based on the whimsical claims made, I think maybe someone has been smoking a little too much of a certain “tree” variety...

I feel sorry for a tree that hates his neighbors. It’s not like they can move.
