Our daughter and I were there a few weeks back, I probably stepped on this one!

Had a great time there! Yes I'm easily amused.

Do you get to keep them or is it “public” property, so it has to be given back or else you violated the federal law?

I’m sure she will always remember the excitement of finding that diamond. If she had it cut for a ring it would probably come out to about a half carat, and the memory will be much more valuable than the cut diamond ever would.

You find it, it is yours!
If you like they will weigh it and verify it.

That said people right near me found them, very friendly environment, but you could tell they did NOT want to brag about their find. They were locals and said they come three or four times a week, weather permitting.

I found one miniscule diamond and lost it in the wash tank!

And the biscuits and gravy at the hotel were fantastic!

You keep what you find there.

Until the IRS catches wind of it. Then they want you to pony up.

Is this a great country or what. I mean, what's left of it.

My daughters geology instructor loaned her a book on the diamonds and of the area, I read it on the way down.
They claim that diamonds from this area are harder than other diamonds?

the girl feels cutting the raw diamond will ruin it. For now she is keeping it in its natural state.

I’m not an expert by any measure but I see some pretty large inclusions in that stone and some major flaws

A skillful cutter no doubt would find a way to make at least one good gem from such a large stone.

sometimes the diamonds get lost along with the guns, in a boating accident.

...and to think, Slick and his buddy Jim Blair of Hillary cattle futures fame, almost sold mining rights in this state park to one of Giustra’s business pals back in 1987.

The 4.25-carat Kahn Canary was worn by first lady Hillary Clinton at her husband’s Presidential Inaugural galas in 1993 and 1997 as a special way to represent Arkansas’s diamond site. The diamond’s owner, Stan Kahn of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, loaned the diamond to Mrs. Clinton. (???)

"The 4.25-carat Kahn Canary was worn by first lady Hillary Clinton..."

So now it's 'cursed', like the Hope Diamond. ;-)
